Abstract
Recently, energy storing devices which can supply energy to wearable devices have been studied steadily. As an alternative of conventional battery, flexible yarn- or fiber-based batteries are attractive because of their micro size, light weight, and mechanical flexibility. Although some developments of Li-ion based fiber-structured batteries were released, safety problems from flammability toxicity of Li-ion battery and poor electrochemical performances still remain challenges. Here, safe and high performance fiber-structured battery is demonstrated by embedding the active materials at interior site of fiber and using silver-zinc battery system with aqueous electrolyte. Silver-zinc battery system offers not only high energy and power density, also stability, non-toxicity, and green solutions. In addition, aqueous solution used for electrolyte is free from flammability and explosion. Thanks to embedded structured fiber electrode fabricate by biscrolling method, the wt% of active material could be increased up to 99 wt%. High wt% silver-zinc fiber electrodes achieve the high linear capacity in liquid electrolyte (0.285 mAh/cm) and solid gel electrolyte (0.276 mAh/cm). These high silver-zinc fiber battery can be woven into commercial textile without damages and performance degradation and supply energy to electrical watch.
