한국 최초 권투 세계 챔피언 탄생의 역사적 의미

Abstract

본 연구는 1966년 한국 최초의 프로권투 챔피언의 탄생으로 비롯된 스포츠 민족주의의 발전과 TV 스포츠 중계 시대가 열린 시점에 등장한 상업적 스포츠 이벤트의 역사적 의미를 분석하는 것이 목적이다. 박정희 정권 하의 1960년대는 적극적으로 엘리트 스포츠 발전을 위한 정책을 추진했던 시기로, 이 때 권투 세계 챔피언 탄생을 포함한 스포츠 부문에서의 쾌거를 목도할 수 있었다. 이는 박정희 정권이 지원한 스포츠 민족주의 발현이 성공적이었다는 점을 의미했다. 특히 권투 영웅 김기수의 탄생은 생중계를 포함한 미디어의 보도에 힘입어 당시 그 어떤 스포츠계의 쾌거이상으로 강력한 대중적 파급효과를 보여줬다는 점에서 중요한 역사적 의미가 있었다. 또한 이 승리는 권투 경기를 주요한 TV 스포츠 중계 프로그램으로 자리 잡게 했으며 스포츠와 관련된 광고의 등장을 이끌었다. This study aims at analysing a historical meaning on both development of sports nationalism and the emergence of commercial sports event coinciding with the opening of TV sport broadcasting, derived from the creation of the first world boxing champion in Korea in 1966. The decade of 1960s’governed by Park Chung Hee carried aggressively forward a policy of promoting Korean elite sports, a period that witnessed a couple of sporting exploits including the birth of the world boxing champion. This meant that the representation of sports nationalism supported by the regime was successful. In particular, the birth of a boxing hero, Kim, Ki Soo had an important historical meaning in that it had much stronger impact on the Koreans than any other sporting success from other sports fields with the great assistance of media coverages including live broadcasting at the time. Also, this victory helped to make boxing events as a major TV sports broadcasting program and led to the emergence of sports-related media advertisement in Korea.
