A Study on the Plan of the Historical and Cultural Trail Network Utilizing Old Roads of Hwaseong Fortress, Suwon City

Abstract

본 연구의 사례지역인 수원 화성은 세계문화유산으로 지정되어 있으며, 현재 성곽과 행궁 등의 물적 요소들을 중심으로 활용되고 있는 역사문화지역으로 국내 관광객은 물론 외국인 관광객이 많이 찾고 있는 문화재이다. 하지만 이러한 세계적인 문화재를 보유하고 있음에도 화성 성내의 지역경제는 매우 낙후 되어 있는 실정이다. 이는 수원 화성 성내는 문화재 보호구역으로 지정되어 개발여건이 열악한 상황이며, 수원 화성을 찾는 관광객이 성내로 유입되지 못하고 있는 실정이기 때문이다. 따라서 본 연구는 수원 화성지구 내의 옛길을 활용한 역사문화 탐방네트워크를 제안함으로써 성내에 존재하는 역사문화자원의 연계를 도모하고 역사문화탐방의 다양성을 추구하며, 이를 통해 궁극적으로 낙후된 역사도시의 지역 활성화 제고를 위한 기초자료 제시를 목적으로 수행되었다. 본 연구는 역사문화자원의 유형분류와 해석을 통해 접근성, 연계성, 잠재력 등의 기준에 의해 탐방 중심노선 및 네트워크체계를 구축하는 방법을 사용하여 연구를 수행한 결과, 첫째, 역사문화자원의 해석을 통해 ``옛길탐방권역``, ``테마거리권역``, ``예술탐방권역``, ``먹거리권역``, ``축제권역``, ``거점경관권역`` 등 6개의 권역별 특성이 도출되었다. 둘째, 이를 토대로 역사, 옛길, 라온, 문화, 경관의 주제를 갖는 총 5개소의 대표노선이 선정되었다. 이상의 연구 결과들이 정책으로 실현되기 위해서는 향후 5개소의 대표노선에 대한 세부실행과제들에 대한 연구과제가 있어야 할 것으로 사료되었다.Suwon Hwaseong, was designated as a world cultural heritage site. Its historical and cultural areas, comprised of physical elements including a fortress and Haenggung (temporary palace), attract not only local tourists but also foreign ones. However, the local economy is significantly underdeveloped despite its possession of such world cultural properties. The fortress was designated as a cultural property protection area and was therefore underdeveloped. Visitors to Suwon Hwaseong Fortress have not been attracted to the inside of the fortress. Therefore, This study promotes linkages among historical and cultural resources existing in Suwon Hwaseong Fortress, and in particular, proposes an historical and cultural trail network utilizing old roads. Its completion is a tribute to the local activities in the underdeveloped historical city of Suwon. Historical and cultural resources were identified and selected on the central route along with definitions of usable words in this research. A technique of selecting a central axis of old roads of Hwaseong was applied to the network system according to factors such as accessibility, linkages, and potentiality, after excavating historical and cultural resources and then having them interpreted and classified. Six zones of characteristics such as Old Road, Theme Street, Art, Food, Main Festival and Landscape Point were derived from interpretations on historical and cultural resources, and five central routes such as Historical, Old Road, Raon, Cultural, and Landscape were selected based on them. Finally, should these conclusions be operated as policies, further research related to subdivision plans etc. would follow.
