한국 신화의 타계(他界; the other world) 연구 -수평적 방위 개념을 중심으로

Abstract

We can search the other worlds which are associated with this existence in the myths. The fundamental thought systems which work from the myths are realized through the transcendental and supernatural existence which exist symmetrically from human beings and this world.The other worlds located beyond the sea are often found in Korean foundation myths. That world is typical case of strange and mysterious worlds. The good and holy people from the other worlds lead cultural development in this world. The most common case of the other worlds in Korean shaman myths is very the western world which called the western paradise in Buddhism. That world is too far away from here and there are good and holy people. And for human being in agony, the western world is the alternative world to provide comfort and salvation.
