뮤지컬 속에서 나타나는 무용의 역할에 관한 연구

Abstract

뮤지컬은 1735년 오페라를 시작으로 현재까지 꾸준히 발전해 오고 있는 공연 예술의 한 장르이다. 유럽에서 시작해 미국에서 입지를 확고히 다지며 그 독창성을 인정받고 있는 뮤지컬은 이제는 우리나라에서도 대중들에게 사랑받는 공연 예술 중 하나로 손꼽힌다. 뮤지컬은 대본, 음악, 무용이라는 요소가 효율적으로 조화를 이루며 극을 진행시키므로 각각의 요소에 대한 이해를 필요로 한다. 특히 그 안에서 무용은 독특한 표현성을 지닌 보편적 신체 언어로서 극 전달에 있어 다른 어떤 요소보다 강력한 전달 매체가 될 수 있으므로 뮤지컬에서 무용의 위치와 역할은 매우 중요하다 할 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구는 뮤지컬에 있어 무용의 기능과 역할을 이해하고 그 중요성을 입증하여 대중예술인 뮤지컬을 통해 무용 발전에 기여하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구에서는 극적기능에 초점을 맞추고 뮤지컬 속에 무용의 역할에 대해 살펴보기 위해 여러 뮤지컬 중에서 무용을 소재로 한 뮤지컬 <빌리 엘리어트>를 선택하여 그에 대한 결론을 도출해 내었다. 첫째. 각 장면마다 나타나는 무용의 형태에서 발레, 현대무용, 재즈댄스를 포함한 탭댄스, 아크로 바틱 등 각각의 무용의 특색을 살려서 구성 되어져 있었고, 솔로, 듀엣, 군무 등의 형태를 이루고 있다. 무용은 발레 기본동작과 테크닉, 섬세한 배우의 동작과 현대적인 움직임을 특유한 감각을 살려 작품 내용과 시각적 유희를 만족시킬 수 있는 구성이었 다고 보여 진다. 둘째, 음악은 주로 경쾌한 리듬의 재즈 음악과 강한 선율의 비트 있는 음악 을 사용하여 극적 효과를 더 해 주었고 각 장르의 춤이 음악에 자연스레 녹아 들어 적절한 조화를 이루었다. 셋째, 무용의 극적 표현의 기능은 무용이 플롯 전개에 있어서 뮤지컬만의 독특한 예술기교의 장점을 표현하는데 무용이 그 역할을 담당했으며, 등장인물의 성격을 묘사할 때 대사와 노래로 표현할 수 없는 감각적인 내면 세계를 관객에게 전달하며 주제전개 발전을 도왔다. 이와 같이 무용을 통해 드러난 언어적, 극적기능들의 다양한 형태의 적절한배합은 극대화를 꾀한 무용의 역할의 중요성을 인식하게 된다.; Musical is a genre of performance art starting in 1735 as opera and being continually developed until now. It started in Europe and strengthened its position in the USA. The uniqueness of musical is recognized and loved by the public. Musical is efficiently harmonized with story, music and dance. So it is needed to understand each factor. Especially danceas a universal body language with unique expression could be more powerful expression media than the other factors. So the position and role of dance in musical is very important. So this study aims to contribute to the developmentof dance through musical of public art by understanding the feature and role of dancing in musical and proving its importance. This study focuses on the dramatic feature and understands the role of dance in musical. It selected ‘Billy Eliot’ a musical with a theme of dancing to extract a conclusion. First, each scene shows the characteristics of dancing such as ballet, modern dance, Jazz dance, tap dance and acrobatics. There are solo, duet and group dances. The dance uses the basic movement andtechnique of ballet with delicate and modern movement. It revives unique sensation for visual satisfaction. Second, the music uses Jazz with bright rhythm and strong beat to give dramatic effect. The dance of each genre is melt into the music to be adequately harmonized. Third, dance plays its role in expressing the merits of artistic technique for the processing of the plot as the feature of dramatic expression of dance. When expressing the characteristics of the characters, the dance helps to transfer the sensitive inner world that can’t be expressed with story or songs to the audience. The proper combination of linguistic and dramatic features expressed through dance shows the importance of dance in maximizing the expression.
