- Abstract
- Interaction and contact are the requirements of social life. People frequently experience the appearance of strangers on several individual and community levels and psychological and physical levels. Furthermore, people show themselves as the stranger identity to other individuals or societies. They are general psychological and social phenomenon experienced by people. So those elements have been described in various forms. Tale is one of the representative forms. With five tales including “Jangjamot Legend”, the representative oral epic in Korea as the texts, this paper investigated the dual psychology of residents against strangers, fear and hospitality, and psychological mechanism through which a god is created. To this end, history and ethics(religion) elements were extracted from tales to investigate only the psychological phenomenon which might occur in general social life. ‘Flood’ and ‘taboo’, the main themes of researches on tales up to now, were excluded from the discussion in this paper because they were based on existence of god and religion. Several layers of psychological horror were applied to formation and inheritance of “Jangjamot Legend.” While it doesn't keep its original form now, strangers have been continuously appearing in various forms and the fear of people against strangers never reduces. In addition, the mechanism has been more complicated and skillful. We have to disclose the fallacy by directly investigating the mechanism distorting our life. The analysis on ‘Jangjamot Legend’ is a kind of exploration to diagnose our life in modern days.
