기부와 자원봉사 참여의 불평등 비교분석

Abstract

이 논문은 일부 국가들 사례에서 제기된 기부나 자원봉사활동 ‘참여의 불평등’ 문제를 한국 사회에서의 적용 여부를 탐구한다. ‘참여의 불평등’ 요인들로 꼽히는 소득 과 학력은 기부나 자원봉사의 참여에 어느정도 중요한 영향력을 미치고 있으며, 이 같은 소득과 학력 요인들에 비교해 개인의 단체참여 활동, 종교활동, 이웃과 친구 등과의 사적 관계망 요인들은 어느정도 나눔활동과 관계되는지, 비교분석에 연구의 초점을 맞춘다. 경험적 분석 결과, 기부 참여 모형에서는 소득 수준, 구호자선단체 회원 활동, 이웃교제 변수들이 기부 참여에 통계적으로 유의미한 관계를 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났고, 자원봉사 참여 모형에서는 소득 수준과 교육 수준보다는 구호자선 단체와 시민사회단체 회원 활동과 종교단체나 자선단체 지인들과의 교제활동 등 관 계망 변수들이 통계적으로 유의미한 관계를 갖고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 소득이나 교육 측면에서 참여의 ‘역량’은 부족하지만, 참여의 여건을 마련해주고, 기회를 제공 해줌으로써 참여에 관심을 갖고 참여자가 되도록 이끌어주는 사회적 분위기나 시민 사회단체 등의 중개조직의 역할, 사적 관계망의 중요성을 확인할 수 있다. This study deals with the issue whether the ``inequality of participation`` of giving and volunteering`` as suggested by some empirical studies is applicable in Korean society. Comparing both the socioeconomic status(SES) variables(income and education) and social networking variables(group and religious activities, networking with friends and neighbors), this study focuses attention on the empirical implications of ``inequality of participation`` issue. The empirical result shows that in the ``giving`` model, only the level of income, welfare organization activity, neighbor networking variables are statistically significant and in the ‘volunteering’ model, rather than income or education variables, such variables as welfare and civil society organization activities, networking with people in religious and welfare organizations are statistically significant. The result reveals the importance of the social networking among people in the participation of giving and volunteering.
