Abstract
The aim of the study is to consider the characteristic of urban street structure that induces walking, through trend analysis of consumption behavior and change in commercial area characteristics. This study focused on the streets that are accumulated with commercial and cultural facilities. ISOVIST was used as the analysis tool for understanding street structure. Shown below are the results of ISOVIST analysis. As modern society has arrived, large-sized commercial complex spaces that could satisfy the needs of cultural, leisure and consumption activities have developed. It was found that there are numerous studies concerning the ease of way-finding in large area through the visual recognition, as well as number of studies focusing on the indoor large-sized commercial complex spaces that resulted from change in consumption pattern. However, the studies that considered different forms of commercial spaces are yet impending. Also, the continuous change in consumption pattern is leading a shift of shopping space from indoor to outdoor. Pushing the limits of flat structured analysis, three-dimensional ISOVIST analysis studies are being undertaken; yet studies concerning outdoor commercial facilities are considered to be insufficient. Therefore, as the user demand of street business districts-mostly on small outdoor shops-is increasing, ISOVIST analysis for selecting walking-inducing commercial street spatial structure is required.
