판소리 발림과 창극 춤에 관한 상관성 연구 －판소리와 창극의 움직임을 중심으로－

Abstract

이 논문은 판소리의 중요한 움직임인 발림과 너름새에 우리 춤의 원형이 담겨있다는 사실을 확인하는 데 있다. 판소리는 조선 후기에 민중의 삶을 구체적으로 반영시켜 노래한 서민 예술이다. 판소리 광대는 서서 노래만 하는 것이 아니고, 연극적 동작도 하는데, 이를 ‘발림’, 혹은 ‘너름새’라고 한다. 광대는 오른 손에 부채를 들고 소리를 하면서 춤을 추거나 동작을 보여준다. 광대는 연희를 보여주는 배우로서, 소리뿐 아니라 몸짓을 통해서도 판소리를 연기한다. ‘너름새’는 사설이 그려내고 있는 장면을 춤이나 동작을 통하여 보조적으로 보여주는 행위이다. 판소리의 발림과 너름새에는 한국춤의 원형질이 담겨있다. 발림이나 너름새는 우리 조상들이 전승시켜 내려온 판소리춤이다. 판소리춤에는 우리 춤의 동작이 고스란히 담겨있다. 이 발림과 너름새의 개념과 명창들의 이해를 점검하고자 한다.전통 판소리를 원천으로 삼아 20세기에 들어서 새롭게 만든 음악극이 창극이다. 창극에는 판소리가 바탕이 되지만, 음악․연기․무용이 혼합되어 있다. 소리광대와 고수 두 사람으로 구성되어 있는 판소리는 최초의 실내극장인 ‘희대’의 등장으로 새로운 공연형태인 창극을 만들어 내는 기반과 토대가 되었다. 판소리는 극장공연이라는 새로운 조건을 맞아 새롭게 분창이라는 형식을 갖추면서 음악극으로 변화해갔다. 고수의 북반주만으로 진행되는 판소리공연은 극장으로 옮아오면서 자연스럽게 한국악기가 덧붙어 수성반주를 하게 되었다. 창극의 무대는 자연스럽게 판소리의 소리뿐 아니라 배우의 연기적인 요소가 부각되고, 발림이 춤으로 변화하게 된다. 물론 배우들의 춤도 강조되었지만, 창극공연에는 다채로운 볼거리를 제공하기 위하여 무용수들의 춤이 장식적 요소로 덧보태졌다.이제 창극은 현재의 한국전통음악극으로 발전하여 새로운 가능성을 담고 있다. 창극은 백년의 세월을 거치면서 전통과 근대, 그리고 미래를 지향하는 새로운 공연형태로 자리 잡고 있다. 창극에서 춤이 단순히 장식적인 범주를 벗어나 작품의 내용에 중요하게 기능하게 되면서 자연스럽게 창극춤이 주목의 대상이 되었다. 이는 국립창극단의 <청>, <수궁가> 등을 통하여 하나의 시도가 되었다. 이 논문은 판소리의 발림과 창극의 춤이 어떤 방식으로 연관되어 새로운 공연예술의 지평을 넓혔는지에 대한 현단계의 점검이다.The purpose o this study is to investigate the theory that the origin of Korean traditional dances has its prototype in somatic gestures(Balim and Nurreumsae). Pansori is a form of performing art for the commoners in late Choson period. A Pansori performer does not just stand and sing, but he also does theatrical somatic gestures, called “Balim” or “Nurreumsae.” The performer holds a fan in his right hand, and sings ands does gestures or dances. The performer, refered as a Gwangdae, or a clown, is an actor who sings, acts and dances.‘Nurreumsae’ aids what happens in the narrative with hand gestures. Balim and Nurreumsae has the essense of the Korean traditional choreography. Through explaining various forms and evolutions of Balim andn Nurreunsae, this study seeks to better the understanding of the master performers.Changgeuk is a 20th century creation, built from traditional Pansori. While it has its base on Pansori, it is an art form that comprises vocal music, instrumental music and dancing. A performance of Pansori is made up with a singer and a drummer, and as the first indoor theater of ‘Hee-dae’ was a stimulant to create a new form of art called Changgeuk. Pansori then took a form of musical theater, with the roles of the narratives divided into many performers. Korean instruments are needed as the background music, and elements of ‘acting’ were added to the performances in addition to simple help of the drummer. Balim then turned into a dance, choreographed and practiced. It was not only the actors who danced, but professional dancers were also utilized in performances.Modern Changgeuk is now the premier form of Korean musical theater. Changgeuk has been evolved in last hundred years, and it now connects the past, the present and the future. Choreography in Changgeuk is not just an ornament to the musical theater, but an integral part of the performance. National Changgeuk Company’s <Cheong> and <Sugungga> shows the examples on how to utilize choreography and dances. This study checks the current status of the choreography in Changgeuk and how it diversified the art.
