일제하 조선인 경영신문의 축구대회 후원과 개최에 관한 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 일제시기 조선인이 경영하는 신문의 축구 대회 후원의 전개 양상과 그 특징을 살펴보는 데에 목적이 있다. 그 특징은 다음과 같이 대체로 4가지 요소로 구분될 수 있다. 첫째 새로운 자금이 유입되거나 혁신이 필요할 때 축구사업을 활용했으며 둘째 신문사와 관련된 축구계 인물 때문에 축구 대회 후원이나 주최를 하는 경우가 많았다는 점이다. 세 번째는 축구 대회 후원을 할 때 신문사가 근대적 마케팅 기법을 보여줬으며 넷째는 자사가 후원하거나 주최하는 대회 기간 중 호외 발행과 속보대 설치를 통해 속보전달에 힘썼다는 점이다. 하지만 이 같은 노력은 당시 높은 문맹률을 고려했을 때 자사의 상업적 이익을 창출하는 데에 거의 영향을 미치지 못했다. 오히려 조선인 경영 신문사들의 축구 후원과 대회 개최는 일제 시기 축구의 전국적 확산과 민족의식 고취에 영향을 줬다.This study aims at examining the development and characteristics of football tournaments``sponsorship and hosting ofnewspapers run by the Koreans during Japanese period. Those characteristics can be divided into four elements as follows. First, newspapers run by the Koreans tended to utilize football business when new capital was invested or they needed toinnovate their newspapers. Second, many football tournaments``sponsorship and hosting of the newspapers was made byfootball figures who were concerned with the newspapers. Third, the newspapers used modernized marketing methods whensponsoring football tournaments. Fourth, they made an effort in delivering breaking news by issuing an extra edition andinstalling bulletin boards. However, it can be argued that these efforts did little influence in generating their commercial profitsgiven high illiteracy rate among the Koreans. Rather, it seems likely that football tournaments``sponsorship and hosting ofnewspapers run by the Koreans impacted on the diffusion of football throughout the nation and instilling nationalism into theKoreans.
