'콰드로페니아(Quadrophenia, 1979)' 영화의상에 나타난 모즈스타일

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 1960년대 배경의 모즈를 주제로 제작한 영화 콰드로페니아(Quadrophenia)에 등장한 주요 인물들의 의상 자료를 통해 모즈 스타일의 특성을 분석하는 데 있다. 연구방법은 문헌연구와 사례연구로서, 1960년대의 사회문화적 배경과 패션경향, 그리고 대표적 하위문화였던 모즈에 대하여 문헌자료를 통해 고찰하고, 영화 속에서 모즈족을 대변하는 주요 인물들의 의상을 사례연구하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 문헌연구를 통해 살펴본 모즈는 상류사회에 대한 동경과 기성세대에 대한 반항, 산업화, 도시화로 인해 심해진 계층 간의 갈등에 대해 저항하는 영국의 가난한 노동자 젊은이들을 칭하는 개념이자 그들만의 스타일, 취향을 표현한 하위문화이다. 남성모즈의 패션 스타일은 짧은 기장의 재킷과 폭이 좁은 바지로 구성된 테일러드형의 맞춤 정장으로 대표되며, 여성모즈는 베이직한 색상이나 밝은 원색에 심플한 디자인의 스웨터 또는 블라우스와 무릎길이의 H라인 스커트를 입은 단정하고 모던한 스타일로 대표된다. 영화 콰드로페니아의 주인공 지미 쿠퍼, 여성 모즈족인 스테프, 모즈족 리더로 등장한 에이스 페이스, 그리고 그 외의 모즈족 의상을 분석한 사례연구의 결과는 60년대 모즈에 대한 문헌 고찰과 같은 결과를 보였다. 영화에 등장한 모즈 스타일은 편안하고 여유있는 X형이나 H형의 실루엣, 무채색부터 원색까지 밝고 다양한 색상, 차가운 느낌의 가죽이나 합성섬유 혹은 모헤어와 같은 고급스러운 소재를 특징으로 하며, 대부분의 모즈는 동그랗고 단정한 헤어스타일에 페도라, 선글라스, 스틸레토 힐, 숄더백 등의 액세서리를 착용하였다. The purpose of this study is to analyze the main characteristics of the mod style in the movie ‘Quadrophenia’ that was filmed during the age of mods in the 1960s. For the method of this study, literature review was mainly used for research of features of the mod style and the socio-cultural background during the1960s, and analysis of the costume of the main characters and the plot of the movie. The results of this study are as follows. Most of the mods were the poor working-class youth in Britain, so they always had a desire to escape from the difficulties in life. This dire circumstance consequently had led to rise in rebellion against the older generation. The mods had spent most of the income on buying clothes or adorning themselves. The majority of the mods’ style is neat and modern as the silhouette or details are quite simple. One of the main characteristics of menswear is the order-made suit, including a tailored jacket with no-turn-up narrow trousers. The women used to wear a blouse, cardigan, or pullover with a knee-length H-line skirt. Mods shows well a fashion which expresses the mental world reflected in politics, economics, society and culture. The mainstream of the color is bright, neutral or vivid. To sum up, industrialization and urbanization had aroused the mods’ vigorous resistance to the older generation, longing for high society, and conflicts between the classes, which triggered the mods’ desperate desire to be shown through style, taste, and hobby.
