거주지역 외국인 아내의 비중과 가구구조가 혼인이주여성의 출산력에 미치는 영향: 주변효과의 검증

Abstract

이 논문은 한국에 거주하는 혼인이주여성의 출산력을 설명하는 요인 중 주변효과에 주목한다. 특히 거주지역의 외국인 아내 비중과 시부모와의 동거 여부가 출산력과 출산간격에 미치는 영향을 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이 논문은 거주지역의 외국인 아내 비중이 높을수록 한국사회에 원활하게 적응할 수 있고, 출산과 관련된 정보와 자원, 연결망을 지니게 됨으로써 출산에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 가정하였다. 아울러 시부모와의 동거는 양육자원을 확보하는 의미에서 출산에 긍정적인 영향을 미칠 것으로 판단하였다. 분석을 위하여 개인 수준에서 수집된 자료인 『2009년 전국다문화가족 실태조사』와 혼인ㆍ이혼ㆍ출생 신고자료를 바탕으로 집합적인 수준에서 집계한 『다문화 시군구 통계 Data Sheet, 2010』가 활용되었다. 분산분석과 회귀분석을 실시한 결과, 사회인구학적 요인을 통제한 후에도 거주지역의 외국인 아내 비중은 출산력을 높이고 출산간격을 짧게 하는 데 영향을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이러한 주변효과는 시부모와 동거할 때 더 높아지는 것으로 나타났다.The main purpose of this paper is to explore socio-demographic differentials and neighborhood effects on fertility among foreign wives in Korea. Attention is focused on examining the effects of the number of foreign wives and the ethnic composition of residential area on the level and tempo of fertility of foreign wives. Favorable ethnic composition of the residential area and increased accessibility to other foreign wives are likely to reduce the real or perceived social disadvantages, constraints and insecurities of foreign wives that might otherwise lead to lower fertility. Another question to be examined is whether and to what extent foreign wives show distinctive levels of fertility according to household composition. Micro-data from the 2009 Korean National Multi-culture Family Survey and Marriage and Divorce Registration Data for 2009-2011 are analyzed. ANOVA and regression analysis show that the ethnic compositional environment exerts an independent effect on fertility, apart from socioeconomic and demographic variables. Propensity to have children ceteris paribus rises substantially among foreign wives who live in an area with a large population of transnational couples. Neighborhood effects tend to be stronger when a foreign wife lives with her husband’s parents. Further evidence is found to be consistent with neighborhood effects.
