Abstract
Park, Jae-sam’s poems represent his self consciousness with strong centripetal features reduced to identity, however, also hide the will of dynamic centrifugal expansion. He could not push forward these worlds more passionately at the late period of his poetry. Repeatedly regressed to his early poetry due to poverty, illness and hardships of life, He was not able to expand his poetic characteristics. In his late poems, nevertheless, it is not difficult to find the message of self confirmation of the poet who lived through harsh modern history and repeatedly tried to identify the most archetypical and pure-minded world. At the base of Park’s late poems, the subject slowly moves forward to the wish for energetic, continuous and eternal ‘love’, passing the permanently indelible world of ‘deep sorrow(han).’ And the shape of ‘nature’ gradually changes from the allegorical one mediating ‘deep sorrow’ in the early poems to the one existing wit its own transparent materiality. In this point, Park, Jae-sam’s ‘nature’ functions as a correlative which cheers up a person in a critical situation and make the subject to speak brightly and healthily with its boundless vitality. This is a strong indicator showing that Park’s poems seek for life. And it also becomes the important reason that he not be confined only to ‘a poet of 1950s’ nor to ‘a post-war poet.’ Therefore, Park, Jae-sam’s late poems singing the principle of ‘love’ and authentic ‘nature’ are very meaningful knot in his entire poetic world.
