- Abstract
- This research is about the new system of screening in colonial Chosun in the 1940s. Focusing on Focused on the fields of distribution and performing in 1942, it looked into their exhibition practices in practical and analytical ways and have found out what is followed. First, in the aftermath of the Sino-Japanese War the practice of film exhibition in Chosun was reformed like that of Japan. And this was connected closely the controlling policy of the distribution and performance under the cinema new system built in 1942. Second, the proclamation and enforcement of Chosun Yeongwha-Ryeong (Film Law of colonial Chosun) and related reforms would lead to various forms of changes in the film exhibition practice. At the time, its film screening practice consisted of three kinds of screening, regular, mobile and intermittent film screening. Also, the showing time was more and more shorten and a set of film exhibition practice, consisting of newsreels, cultural movie (Munwha Yeongwha), and feature film, was established. And the last, Because of the consolidation of film productions in Chosun after 1942, the trade of films between the imperial Japan and colonial Chosun was vitalized. Such changes had a decisive effect on even the production of feature films in Chosun during this period.
