- Abstract
- Cytomegalovirus (CMV), a member of the herpes viridaefamily, is a well-described opportunistic virus and a poten-tial pathogen in immunocompromised patients with AIDS,malignant neoplasms, or immunosuppression after organtransplantation.1Infection by CMV in the immunocom-promised individual can be severe and even fatal, withpneumonitis, hepatitis, encephalitis, gastroenteritis, chorio-retinitis, or widely disseminated disease as possiblecomplications.1However, infection in immunocompetentindividuals is usually asymptomatic or subclinical.2?4Therefore, cutaneous CMV infection is observed veryrarely in immunocompetent individuals, and only a fewcases have been reported in the dermatologic literature.5?7
