보육시설 수탁률과 여성 고용률이 출산율에 미치는 영향: 광역시·도 단위 패널자료 분석

Abstract

16개 광역시·도 단위의 패널자료를 사용하여 관측불가한 지역적·문화적·인구학적 특성을 반영하면서, 여성의 노동공급뿐만 아니라 영유아 보육시설 이용도를 설명변수로 고려하는 출산율 결정모형을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 주요 출산연령인 20세∼39세 여성을 5세 구간의 4개 연령대로 표본을 분리하였으며, 일부 설명변수의 내생성을 고려하여 패널 일반화적률추정법을 적용하였다. 실증분석 결과, 35세∼39세 연령대를 제외한 3개 연령대에서 일하는 가구와 일하지 않는 가구 모두에서 여성의 시간당 임금에 관한 모수 추정치는 유의성이 있는 음의 값을 가지며, 보육시설 수탁률에 관한 모수 추정치는 20세∼24세 연령대를 제외한 모든 연령대에서 유의성 있는 양의 값을 가지고 있었다.Using panel data covering all 16 major cities and provinces of Korea, we estimate the fertility rate equation including not only female employment but also day care usage in the set of regressors while controlling regional-level unobserved time-invariant cultural and demographic characteristics as the unobserved individual fixed effects. We divide the sample of women aged between 20 and 39 into 4 age-groups, each of which consists of 5 years of age and is analyzed separately. Since some regressors are deemed endogenous, we employ panel data generalized method of moments estimation. Main results are that women’s hourly wage rate affects fertility rate negatively in three age-groups except the age group of 35∼39 and that day care usage affects fertility rate positively in three age-groups except the age group of 20∼24.
