- Abstract
- The aim of this study is to evaluate the activities and perception of clinical nurses regarding fall prevention and safety culture of elderly patients and to provide basic data for program development in this field. 221 nurses at a tertiary university hospital in Seoul, Korea participated in a questionnaire survey from the 27th February, 2012 to 12th March, 2012. The collected data were analyzed with SPSS/WIN 18.0. The reliability were that Fall Prevention Activity was Cronbach’s = .889 and Patient Safety Culture was Cronbach’s =. 880. The mean age of the participants was 30.4 years and mean career experience was 7.58 years. Clinical nurses underwent safety education on a mean basis of 1.97 times/year. The mean number of reported patient accidents for participant was 1.35 times/year. And 91.86% replied that they felt that the level of safety management at the hospital was more than normal. The level of elderly fall prevention activites showed an average of 4.25 out of 5 points and the perception of safety culture showed an average of 3.86 out of 5 points. The Pearson correlation coefficient was 0.33 between the level of elderly fall prevention activities and the perception of safety culture and 42% of fall prevention of elderly patients could be explained by 2 variables; the perception of safety culture and career experience.
