1910년대 중반 조선에서 유니버설 영화에 관한 연구

Abstract

이 논문은 제1차 세계대전 발발 이후 유니버설의 영화가 조선에 유입되어 상영된 사실들을 조사한 것이다. 일제 강점 이전 조선에서 상영된 영화는 미국, 프랑스, 일본 등 다양한 방면에서 수입되었다. 특히 싱가포르에 설립된 파테의 대리점에서 저가의 필름을 대량 공급하면서 1907년 이후 조선에 파테 필름이유행했다. 1910년을 전후한 시기 일본의 영화회사들은 영국에 지사를 두고 필름을 수입했다. 일제에 강점된 조선에는 닛카츠와 텐카츠의 대리점을통해 필름을 공급받았다. 그러나 제1차 세계대전이 발발하고 유럽에서 유입되는 필름의 양이 줄어들게 되면서 조선에는 미국에서 직수입된 필름이 유입된다. 1916년 12월 조선인 상설관 우미관이, 1917년3월, 일본인 상설관 유락관이 유니버설과 특약 계약을 맺었다. 이 두곳의 상설관을 통해 조선에 유니버설에서 제작한 연속영화와 장편영화들이 수입되었다. 1910년대 중반 유니버셜로 대표되는 헐리우드영화의 본격적인 배급과 상영은 헐리우드 영화의 전지구적 확산이라는 국제적인 차원의움직임을 통해 이해할 필요가 있다. 이는 국경을 넘은 영화사 연구의필요성을 제기한다. This paper is intended to investigate the fact that the universal films after the outbreak of the First World War have been screened to flow into Korea. Before Japanese occupation, in Korea the movie was imported from various fields, including America, France and Japan. In particular, the film distributor Pathé which was established in Singapore supplied large amount of low-cost film. This film was popular in Korea since 1907. Before and after 1910 when the Japanese film companies have offices in the United Kingdom and imported films. Under Japanese occupation, they have received the film through a distributor of Nikkatsu and Tenkatsu . However, as the first World War broke out and reduce the amount of film coming from Europe, Film was imported directly from America. December 1916 The Korean movie theater Umigwan has signed a special agreement contract with Universal. March 1917 Japanese movie theater Yurakkwan has signed a special agreement contract with Universal, too. Through these two movie theaters, serial films and feature films which were produced by Universal were imported in Korea. During the mid-1910s, hollywood major studio’s movies such as Univeral the regular distribution and screening needs to be understood in terms of the global proliferation of hollywood movies. In this regard, a historical research beyond geographical boundaries is necessary.
