정보비대칭이 목표주가에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구에서는 재무분석가가 목표주가를 산출하는 데 기업의 정보환경이 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다. 먼저, 재무분석가가 산출한 목표주가는 같은 시점에 시장에 형성된 주가와 비교하여 추가적인 정보를 포함하고 있을 것으로 보고, 기업의 정보환경에 따라 주가괴리율이 달라지는지 살펴보고, 정보비대칭이 큰 기업은 개별 재무분석가의 사적 정보의 수집이나 전문적 지식이 더 필요하기 때문에 정보비대칭이 큰 기업을 분석하는 재무분석가들 사이에 편차가 존재하는지 확인해 보았다. 연구결과, 정보비대칭이 클수록 주가괴리율과 목표주가 편차가 큰 것으로 나타나 기업의 정보환경이 재무분석가의 목표주가 산출에 영향을 미치는 것으로 확인되었다. 다음으로는 기업의 정보환경이 목표주가 예측정확성에 영향을 미치는지 살펴보았다. 정보비대칭이 큰 기업은 재무분석가 역시 정확한 목표주가를 산출하기 어려울 뿐 아니라 재무분석가가 목표주가를 산출했다 하더라도 이에 포함된 정보가 시장에 충분히 반영되기 어려운 환경 때문에 목표주가를 달성하기 어려울 것으로 예상하였다. 분석결과, 정보비대칭이 클수록 목표주가와 목표기간 후 실제주가의 차이가 큰 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 이와 같은 연구결과는 기업의 정보환경이 재무분석가의 분석활동에 영향을 미친다는 견해를 지지하는 결과이며, 투자자에게 기업의 정보환경과 목표주가의 관계에 대한 실증적인 증거를 제시함으로써 목표주가 정보를 투자의사결정에 활용하도록 정보를 제공했다는 점에서 의의를 가지고 있다.This study investigates the effect of firms` information environment (information asymmetry) on analysts` target price forecast process. Compared to the current stock price, the target price suggested by analysts includes additional information because analysts reflect their expertise and privately-collected information into their target price forecasts. So if information asymmetry is large, we expect more disagreement among the target price forecasts and more difficulty in achieving those forecasts. Using the daily stock return volatility (VOLA) as s proxy for information asymmetry, we find that (ⅰ) the larger information asymmetry, the more deviation in analysts` target price forecasts, and (ⅱ) the more inaccurate analysts` target price forecasts are. These results show that the information environment affects analysts` forecasts and suggest that investors need to incorporate the information environment into their investment decision-making.
