북한 이탈 학생들의 의식과 사고방식에 대한 기초연구

Abstract

이 연구는 북한이탈학생들의 의식과 사고방식 등을 파악하기 위한 기초연구이다. 그들의 외모는 남한청소년들과 비슷하지만, 의식, 가치관과 사고방식 등은 매우 다르다. “북한에서는 배고파서 못 살겠고, 중국은 무서워서 못 살겠고, 남한에서는 몰라서 못 살겠다”는 말은 이들이 남한 사회에서 얼마만큼 이질감과 소외감을 느끼고 있는가를 잘 나타내주고 있다. 이 연구는 주로 북한이탈청소년들을 위한 대안학교인 여명학교에서 학생들을 가르치고 지도해 온 현장교사들이 파악한 내용이다. 이 연구에서는 먼저 학생들이 남한에서 가정과 사회에서 어떻게 생활하고 있는가를 밝혔다. 학생들은 북한에서의 생활과 탈북과정에서 경험한 불안과 공포 때문에 정서적 불안에 시달리고 있다. 가족이 없이 혼자서 혹은 어머니와 함께 생활하는 학생들이 대부분이다. 북한이탈 학생들은 “네가 알아서 스스로 결정하라”는 말을 두려워한다. “선생님이 지시하면 그대로 따르겠으니, 이렇게 하라”고 가르쳐 달라고 요구한다. 세상 사람들을 ‘좋은 사람과 나쁜 놈’으로 구분한다. 역사적인 인물들도 마찬가지이다. 오랫동안 북한의 억압적이고 명령적인 체제에서 생활해 왔고, 이분법적 사고방식에 익숙해 있기 때문이다. 북한이탈 학생들의 의식과 사고방식은 그들이 북한에서 어떻게 생활하였으며, 남한에 온지 얼마나 되었고, 남한에서 어떻게 생활해 왔느냐에 따라 차이가 있다. 또한 그들의 의식과 사고방식도 시일이 지나면서 변화되어 간다. 이 연구에서는 이와 같은 집단간의 차이를 밝히지 못하고 있다. 비교적 남한에 온지 얼마 되지 않는 북한이탈 학생들의 일반적인 의식과 사고방식을 그들의 언어를 통해서 밝히고 있을 뿐이다. The students from North Korea came to South Korea not to die from bing hungry. They say that we could not live without food in North Korea but in China we were so scared because they will send us in North Korea if we were caught. In Korea it is so difficult for us to live here because there are lots of things we can not understand.The paper tries to find out what the students from North Korea think and feel in ordinary life in Korea. The teachers of Yeomyung school live with the students and teach them. I taught the 14 students in Yeomyung school and talked with them for a month and interviewed the teachers of Yeomyung school.The students do not know what to do when the teachers say that “you must think and decide what to do by yourself.” They ask the teachers for themselves to decide and tell them what to do.They think there are two types of persons, good and bad guy in this world. These kinds of thinking are from living in the society which communist party in North Korea orders what to do and teach them.However, the students' ways of thinking and feeling will be different how they lived in North Korea and in South Korea and how long they live in democratic and capitalist society. The paper only examine the students recently coming in South Korea from North Korea.
