This paper investigates recent new academic trend which rewrites world history from the perspective of East Asia/China and analyzes political, social and academic connotations of this phenomenon. Western view of China was bifurcated in the age of Enlightenment and negative view dominated the academic field thereafter. Static Chinese society and oriental despotism of 19th century were inherited to the modernization theory of 20th century and revived in the uprising of new euro centric world history after the end of cold war. However, some economic historians refocused on the epoch making characteristics of the British industrial revolution as one exceptional event, which gave lots of inspirations to scholars majoring non European studies. American 'california school' shaped around 2000 argued that advanced regions both Europe and Asia were economically under the Smithian dynamics and only England could make a breakthrough owing to geographically favorable distribution of coal resources and overseas coercive exploitation. This argument was developed from critical revision about proto industrialization of European history. Meanwhile, social scientists accepted these revised world history and are recasting empire, hegemony and financial capitalism theories in order to explain the rise of China and East Asia in the present. Some scholars try to find alternative economic path leading to environment friendly and labor intensive growth in China and East Asia experiences. The rise of China urges historians and social scientists to evaluate China and Asia interactively.en_US
