This study was aimed to examining the aspects and the meaning of pains reflected in Gwonjeongsaeng’s and to understand the writer’s outlook. Mongsil has three kinds of pains. Social suffering was war, relational pain was the absence of volitional beings and the suffering of individual was disability. Then how did Mongsil overcome those pains? The first is the awakening of volitional self. Mongsil has come upon her own situation and accepted without blame. Volitional attention to the reality of suffering is the fight against the reactionary forces. Mongsil does not shrink from fear or pain. She shows the patience and a willingness to raise the pain. The second is the inner consciousness of reconciliation and forgiveness. Mongsil didn’t destroy the curse, but she overcame the pains by reconciliation and forgiveness. Monsil’s way of forgiving to overcome her pains is related to Christian ethics. Mongsil resembles Jesus who has the most painful of the cross and forgave people. Mongsil’s limped figure is replaced to Jesus’ image who was willing to carry the pain from climbing the hill of Golgotha.en_US
