Abstract
A common method used to analyze proteins is mass spectrometry and various databases are used to analyze mass spectra. The database used to analyze the mass spectrum is updated monthly, so new analyzes using updated databases are required to get accurate results. We propose a Progressive Search which enable efficient analysis of the updated database. It is an efficient way to get updated database results using existing database search results and some additional analysis. Existing methods require additional O(SD`) time because they require new analysis of the entire updated database. Where S is the number of spectra and D` is the updated database size. However, the proposed method can be analyzed using O(SΔD+ΔSD) time. Where D is the size of the existing database, ΔS is the number of spectra corresponding to the deleted database, and ΔD is the size of the added database. Therefore, the proposed Progressive Search can analyze the updated database about 27 times faster than the existing method.
