해방공간 청룡기 야구대회의 탄생과 발전(1946~1950)

Abstract

본 연구는 1946년부터 1950년 사이에 자유신문에 의해 개최된 청룡기 중등학교 야구선수권대회의 탄생 및 발전과정 과 후대의 한국야구에 미친 영향을 분석하는 데에 그 목적이 있다. 자유신문 주최의 청룡기 대회는 당시 가장 큰 규모의 야구대회로 대중들의 인기를 끌어 모으자 자유신문과 치열한 신문 판매 부수 경쟁을 펼쳤던 동아일보도 청룡기 대회를 참고한 중등학교 야구대회를 1947년에 창설했다. 청룡기 대회가 남긴 최고의 유산은 광주서중과 경남중학이 명승부를 펼친 1949년 대회에서 비롯됐다. 이 결승전 경기에 매료됐던 세계아마추어야구연맹 극동담당 총재 스테이트먼 제독은 한국의 야구연맹 가입을 도왔다. 이와 아울러 1949년 대회의 결승전은 한국야구에서 영ㆍ호남 라이벌 시대를 여는 데에 기여했다. 자유신문의 청룡기 대회는 1960년대 후반부터 1980년대 초반까지 가장 인기 있는 스포츠 대회 가운데 하나인 고교야구 대회의 전형이 됐다. This study aims to not merely analyze the creation and development process of Chungryonggi Middle School Baseball Tournament sponsored by Jayu Shinmun between 1946 and 1950 but assess its impact on Korean baseball later on. Donga Ilbo who had a keen circulation battle with Jayu Shinmun found an Middle School Baseball Tournament in 1947 modelling upon Chungryonggi, then the biggest baseball tournament being able to attract public interest. The most important legacies of Chungryonggi were derived from the 1949 tournament with a nail-biting final between Gwangju Seo Middle School and Gyungnam Middle School. Admiral Stateman, the East Asian Commissioner of National Baseball Congress who enchanted with the final game helped Korea``s affiliation with the aforementioned organization. In addition this game made a contribution to opening up the rivalry between Gyungsang and Jeolla region in Korean baseball. Chungryonggi Tournament under the sponsorship of Jayu Shinmun was an emblem of High School Baseball Tournament, one of the most popular sports tournaments in Korea during the late 1960``s and the early 1980``s.
