기업위기에서 사회공헌활동이 기업평가와 반기업정서에 미치는 영향 : 제조업과 서비스업의 비교

Abstract

기업의 사회공헌(CSR)활동에 대한 중요성이 부각되면서 사회공헌활동은 단순한 자선사업이 아닌 전략적 측면에서의 기업의 경영활동으로 인식되고 있다. 사회공헌활동을 꾸준히 해온 기업들은 기업의 부정적인 사건이 발생하더라도 기존 에 소비자들에게 인식된 긍정적인 이미지가 영향을 주어 기업 평가나 이미지의 하락을 방지하는데 도움을 준다. 즉 기업 의 사회공헌활동이 기업의 위기를 극복하고 신회를 회복하는데 매우 중요한 요소로 작용된다는 것이다. 본 연구에서는 기업의 사회공헌활동을 반응적 위기관리 차원에서 접근하여 마케팅적 전략으로 활용될 수 있는 사회공헌활동에 초점을 맞추었다. 본 연구의 목적으로는 기업의 위기가 발생했을 때, 그 기업에 대한 이미지나 평가를 회복하는데 어떠한 사회공헌활동을 전략적으로 실행해야 하는지 살펴보고자 하였다. 특히, 제조업과 서비스업의 산업별 비교분석을 통해 기업 고유의 특성 이나 이미지에 따라 사회적 책임 활동의 효과가 다르게 나타날 수 있음을 확인해보고자 하였다. 그 결과, 첫째, 사회공헌활동 유형을 물질적 기부와 자원봉사로 나누고 산업 유형을 제조업과 서비스업으로 구분하여 살 펴보았더니 사회공헌활동유형과 산업유형에 따라 기업평가에 차이가 있는 영향을 미치는 것을 보여주었다. 둘째, 사회 공헌활동 유형과 산업 유형에 따라 반기업 정서에 차이가 있는 영향을 미치진 않았지만 사회공헌활동 유형에서 물질적 기부를 하는 것 보다는 자원봉사활동을 하는 것이 반기업 정서를 완화시킨다는 것을 밝혔다. 따라서 본 연구결과는 기업이 위기관리차원에서 사회공헌활동을 실행할 경우 자사의 산업유형을 파악하여 사회공헌 프 로그램을 적합하게 실행할 필요가 있으며 반기업 정서를 완화하는데도 사회공헌활동의 역할이 중요하다는 시사점을 제 공해준다. Corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities become increasingly important in corporate world. They have been recognized as business activities including management strategy, not as a simple charitable activity. In particular, companies after crisis (e.g., usurpation, environmental pollution or product-harm etc.) seem to be interested in changing their negative images thorough CSR activities. In other words, CSR activities are the key factors that the companies can overcome the crisis and recover the trust. The current research investigates how a CSR activity effects on recovering company evaluations and anti-corporate sentiments after a crisis occurs to a company. The research is divided into two types of CSR activities as material donations and volunteer work, and comparison of manufacturing and services industry. Two results were found from the current research on effects of CSR activities. First, there are significant differences in the types of CSR activities and the corporate evaluations depending on the current type of industry a corporate is in. Specifically, the CSR activities in material donations were more effective than volunteer work when a company is in the manufacturing industry. Whereas, the CSR activities in volunteering were more effective than material donations when the company is in the services industry. Second, there are no significant differences in the types of CSR activities and the anti-corporate sentiments depending on the type of industry. However, the main effect that the types of CSR activities affect on the anti-corporate sentiments was discovered during the investigation.
