1386년 정몽주의 南京 사행, 路程과 詩境

Abstract

1386년 정몽주는 명나라의 수도 남경에 네 번째 외교사행을 다녀왔다. 당시 고려와 명나라의 외교 관계는 순탄하지 않았다. 당시 사행은 육로와 해로, 그리고 수로를 반복하는 매우 먼 여정을 소화해야 했으며, 그 거리는 왕복 4000km에 이르렀다. 이는 후대의 북경 사행보다 훨씬 멀고 시일도 오래 걸렸다. 이 논문은 크게 두 부분으로 구성되어 있다. 하나는 사행로 중 중국 산동반도의 登州에서 南京에 이르는 노정을 재구성한 부분이고, 다른 하나는 정몽주가 사행 도중 만들어낸 詩境을 검토한 부분이다. 정몽주는 이 구간에서 60여 수의 시를 남겼다. 노정의 재구를 위해 정몽주의 시를 지리 중심으로 재편하였고, 8박 9일에 걸쳐 현장을 답사하였다. 이 과정을 거쳐 극히 일부 구간을 제외하고는 당시 정몽주의 왕복 노정을 모두 복원할 수 있었다. 1386년 정몽주는 외교관이자 여행자이며 시인이었다. 이 해 3월 19일에서 5월 17일에 이르는 두 달 사이, 登州에서 南京을 오간 노정 위에서 지어진 시에는 정몽주가 그려낸 물색이 생생하고, 시의 풍경 속에는 정몽주의 모습이 선연하다. 공간체험은 시를 낳고, 시는 독자들에게 그 공간에 대한 상상을 불러일으킨다. 공간의 경험은 시의 이해를 도와주고, 미적으로 수용된 시는 지리공간의 의의를 풍요롭게 한다. 이 과정을 통해 작품과 공간은 서로를 형성하고 강화하는 관계로 거듭난다. 登州～南京 구간을 배경으로 하는 정몽주의 시는 한국문학사에서 희소할 뿐만 아니라 높은 미적 수준을 갖추어, 이 지역을 한국문학의 지리공간으로 설정할 수 있도록 해준다. 정몽주의 시편들은 1386년 두 달 간의 역사이자 지리지이다. In 1386, Jeong Mongju undertook four diplomatic trips to Nanjing, the capital of the Ming dynasty, at a time when relations between Goryeo and the Ming were tense. The envoys traveled approximately 4,000 kilometers over several land and water routes. This paper will first examine the envoys’ route from Dengzhou (登州) on the Shandong (山東) peninsula, to Nanjing. Then it will look closely at the approximately 60 poems that Jeong Mongju wrote during these trips. The current author re-arranged the poems according the geography they describe. He then visited the sites over the course of nine days. With the exception of some extremely small parts, the round-trip route taken by Jeong Mongju was identified. During two months from March 19 to May 17 in 1386, Jeong Mongju travelled to Nanjing and vividly described the scenery. The experience of travel gave birth to these poems and in return, the poems stimulate the readers’ imagining of that space. The experience of the journey helps us to understand the poems while an aesthetic understanding of the poems enriches the significance of this geographical space. The poems by Jeong Mongju written while en route from Dengzhou to Nanjing are very rare works in the history of Korean literature and are of a high aesthetic level. On account of this, the route from Dengzhou to Naning now occupies a space in Korean literature.
