Abstract
A radial heat sink with a hollow cylinder is suggested as a cooling system of Light-Emitting diode (LED) lighting with a circular base. The radial heat sink that has long fins and middle fins is considered. To simulate a natural convection, a numerical model is suggested and the model is validated by experiments. The equipment of the hollow cylinder makes a velocity of the inlet air around the heat sink faster because of the narrow air inlet surface comparing to the case of no hollow cylinder. The numerical analysis is conducted to find the optimum setting height of the hollow cylinder and an influence of the hollow cylinder’s material. The maximum improvement of the thermal performance of the heat sink is 35% at the optimum setting environment of the hollow cylinder. The material of the hollow cylinder does not have the influence to the heat sink ability to dissipate the heat.
