dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this study is to provide basic data for improving construction and management of residents participation type urban park by comparing Korea and Japan in terms of program, technique and type. This study examined general theories on residents participation type urban park centering on document research. For analysis of characteristics of resident participation type urban park, this study selected urban parks in Korea and Japan visited them and had interviewed with persons in charge about programs, park management type and park construction. Findings of this study about characteristics of residents participation type urban park in Korea and Japan are as follows. First, both Korea and Japan pursue the third sector method. And role of experts is more emphasized in coordinating conflict between residents and administration in Japan. Second, in Japan, experts in parks or ecology play a key role in coordinating conflict between residents and administration under the coordinator which leads new management expert operation system. Third, as far as operation and participation method of residents participation programs, Japan provides more opportunity for residents to participate in residents participation programs in a free manner. Fourth, In Japan, provisions of residents participation have been made systematically through ordinance or agreement on residents participation concerning urban park management which helps residents participate in urban park management more actively. Findings of this study suggest that various programs about residents participation in korea should be developed and coordinators should be cultivated and relevant systems such as ordinance and agreements that support residents education. And residents participation should be arranged to improve capability of residents participation type urban park management in Korea.en_US
