Abstract
In this study, we prepared chitosan derivative modified magnetic cored dendrimer (CCMD) for cationic and anionic dye adsorption. Chitosan and its derivatives are naturally abundant biopolymer which has excellent properties including high adsorption capacity. We synthesized magnetic-cored dendrimers (MD) with chitosan derivative terminal groups in three steps. The adsorption capacity of CCMD is highly affected by pH conditions, due to their high contents of ?OH, -COOH, and -NH2 groups. In alkali condition, cationic dye were well sorbed on CCMD, while anionic dye were sorbed at acidic condition. Prepared samples were characterized transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscope. Experimental equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed by Langmuir and Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The maximum adsorption capacity for methyl orange and methylene blue at pH 3 and 9 were 20.8 mg/g and 84.1 mg/g, respectively.
