dc.description.abstractThe fractional-slot IPMSMs for electric vehicles are considered with two different winding method: conventional 3 phase windings and multiplex 3 phase windings. This paper studies the merits of multiplex 3 phase motors in the aspect of torque improvement. 10 poles 12 slots IPMSMs are widely studied for large winding factor. Thus, this paper analyzes a 20 poles 24 slots motor which has the same winding factor as a 10 poles 12 slots motor, treated as a 3 phase motor. Then, the reason why torque characteristic can be improved for the 20 poles 24 slots motors. Later, the 20 poles 24 slots IPMSM 3 phase motor and multiplex 3 phase motor are analyzed through finite element method. The structure of the two motors are identical except the winding method. Average torque and torque ripple of the two motors are compared to show the advantage of multiplex 3 phase motors.en_US
