Abstract
Analyzing the problem of regional conflicts in Nagorno-Karabakh of the Caucasus through a film 〈If everyone〉, this paper examines the issue of national identity of the two countries: Armenia and Azerbaijan. The film produced by an Armenian director Natalya Belyauskene deals with the problems of ethnic issues and the victims of war between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Currently, despite the efforts of the international community, the prospect of resolving the disputes between the two countries is uncertain. It is true that a film is not the best medium getting some objective and accurate information. However, it is also true that a film is one of the most powerful weapons to awaken the people, presenting an issue, and expanding the awareness and knowledge about the case. Delivering these views effectively, this paper, at first, describes the background of the causes of territorial dispute in the region as well as of the ethnic trauma. After that follows an investigation on the Nagorno-Karabakh war, using the Armenian national wound, such as the massacre in Sumgait. In consideration of the fact that the film 〈If everyone〉 was produced in Armenia, this paper traces what message Armenia intends to inform to the world through the movie and what the strategy is to deliver it effectively.
