Requirements Analysis on the Physical Environment Factors of Senior Welfare Centers to Prepare for a Super Aged Society

Abstract

Background To keep up with the serious issue of the aging population, the Korean government has announced a project in preparation for the era when people will live to be a hundred. It has planned to implement a variety of policies targeting active seniors who are healthy elders with financial power. The existing research on community senior welfare centers for active seniors focuses on the fundamental facility environment alone and there have been insufficient efforts to obtain a full understanding of their requirements, which have become more and more complex and diverse. This study aimed to confirm the importance of physical environment factors at community senior welfare centers, use correspondence analysis of requirements for the physical environment to carry out in-depth analysis, and present a future direction for the centers. Methods The analysis obtained the following results: First, the need for welfare centers, general satisfaction with senior welfare centers, satisfaction with the physical environment, and the importance of the physical environment at the centers, as felt currently by elders, were all found to be concepts significantly correlated with one another. In other words, both the importance of and satisfaction with the physical environment at the senior welfare centers are now deeply correlated with general satisfaction with the use of the centers. Second, as for the general atmosphere of the senior welfare centers, 45.0% preferred a cozy homelike atmosphere; as for the interior color of the centers, 69.5% preferred bright and clear ivory; and as for the interior material of the centers, 89.5% preferred wood. Third, correspondence analysis of the preferred general indoor atmosphere, the preferred main interior color, and the preferred finishing material for the interior of the welfare centers obtained the following results: the cozy homelike atmosphere was strongly correlated with bright and clear ivory and fabric; the academic, school-like atmosphere with soft pastel and wood; and the luxurious, hotel-like atmosphere with bright and clear ivory and fabric; the natural and rural atmosphere was strongly correlated with soft pastel and wood; and the tidy, pleasant, and modern atmosphere was correlated with subdued and neat gray and primary colors and with wood, paints, and glass. Conclusion This study confirmed the importance of the physical environment at community senior welfare centers and used correspondence analysis of requirements for the physical environment to determine the correspondence between the general indoor atmosphere and preferred colors and materials. A diversity of follow-up researches associated with this one will continuously be conducted for the active seniors who will live to be a hundred. 연구배경 심각한 인구고령화에 대응하여 정부는 100세 시대 프로젝트를 발표하여 경제력있고 건강한 노인인 액티브시니어를 위한 다양한 정책의 실현을 구상하고 있다 현재 액티브시니어를 위한 지역사회의 시니어 복지 공간에 대한 기존의 연구는 기초적인 시설환경에만 집중하고 있어 점점 복잡해지고 다양해지는 그들의 요구를 충분히 하기 부족한 실정이다 이에 본 연구에서는 지역사회의 시니어 복지공간을 중심으로 물리적 환경의 중요 성을 검증하고 물리적 환경에 대한 요구도를 대응일치분석을 이용하여 심층적으로 분석해 봄으로써 미래 시니 어 복지공간디자인 컨셉 제시를 위한 기초 연구를 진행하고자 한다 연구방법 본 연구에서는 여가복지시설 중 이용률이 높은 서울의 노인복지관에 한정하여 이를 이용하고 있는 이용자를 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하고 이를 분석하여 결론을 도출하였다 설문조사는 2014년 2월부터 3월까 지 5개소의 서울소재 노인복지관을 직접 방문하여 노인복지관 이용자를 대상으로 일대일로 진행하고 이를 SPSS 21 0을 이용하여 분석하였다 연구결과 분석의 결과는 다음과 같다 첫째, 현재 노인들이 느끼고 있는 복지관의 필요도, 노인복지관에 대한 전체적 만족도, 그 중 물리적 환경에 대한 만족도, 노인복지관에 있어서 물리적인 환경 중요도는 서로 모두 유의 한 상관관계가 있는 개념이라는 것을 확인 할 수 있다 즉, 현재 노인복지관의 물리적인 환경에 대한 중요도와 만 족도가 노인복지관 이용에 대한 전체 만족도와 연관이 깊다는 것이다 둘째, 노인복지관의 전체 분위기로 가장 적당하다고 생각하는 것의 경우 친근하고 안락한 분위기가 45 0%, 노인 복지관의 내부 색채 가장 선호계열의 경우 밝고 깨끗한 아이보리 계열이 69 5%, 노인복지관 가장 선호 내부재료 의 경우 나무 원목으로 주로 마감된 공간이 89 5%로 가장 높은 선호도를 보였다 셋째, 복지관의 전체 실내 선호 분위기, 주요 실내 색채 선호 계열, 주요 실내 마감재 선호 재료 응답결과를 대응 일치분석 (correspondence analysis)를 통해 분석한 결과는 다음과 같다 친근하고 안락한 분위기는 밝고 깨끗 한 아이보리계열 색채로 패브릭 카페트, 금속과 가장 높은 관련성을 나타냈으며 단정하고 학구적인 분위기는 연하고 부드러운 파스텔 계열과 나무 원목, 중후하고 고급스러운 분위기는 밝고 깨끗한 아이보리 계열과 패브 릭 카페트와 관계가 높게 분석되었다 또한 자연적이고 전원적인 분위기는 연하고 부드러운 파스텔 계열과 나 무 원목, 그리고 깔끔하고 현대적인 분위기는 차분하고 단정한 회색계열과 화사하고 강렬한 원색계열, 재료로 는 나무 원목, 페인트 도색, 유리와 높은 관련성을 보였다 결론 본 연구에서는 지역사회의 시니어 복지공간을 중심으로 물리적환경의 중요성을 검증하고 물리적 환경에 대한 요구도를 대응일치분석을 이용하여 전체 실내분위기에 따른 선호색채와 재료간의 대응관계를 도출 하였다 다가오는 100세 시대를 살아가는 액티브시니어를 위해 본 연구와 관련한 다양한 후속 연구가 계속될 것 이다
