- Abstract
- Highly concentrated silver colloidal solutions were synthesized via alcohol reduction process by adding ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH). NH4OH played a role of enhancing the conversion of silver ions to silver atoms by accelerating oxidation reaction of alcohol. Amount of converted Ag0 affected particle size, size distribution, and particle concentration, and it was explained in the aspect of nucleation and growth steps. Also, in the middle of the reaction process, Ostwald ripening was observed in TEM image which has hardly been reported in metallic particles. Colloidal characteristics were analyzed by UV–vis spectrophotometer and TEM, and the degree of Ag+ reduction was determined by ISE.
