에도(江戶)시대 한국어 학습서 『物名』과 『交隣須知』

Abstract

본 논문은 에도(江戶)시대의 한국어 학습서인 『交隣須知』와 이를 활용하여 만들어진 한국어 어휘집 『物名』의 상호 대응 관계를 밝히고 이를 통하여 『物名』의 제작 과정을 추정해 보고자 기획된 것이다. 조사의 결과, 현존하는 『物名』은 기존의 시로즈(白水)본이나 나가사키(長崎)본『交隣須知』보다 한층 더 ‘증보’ 부분이 보완된 새로운 증보본계『交隣須知』에 근거하여 제작된 것으로 판단된다. 또한 한국어 학습서로서의 『交隣須知』는 한글을 사용한 한국어 본문과 일본어 대역만을 가지고 있어 한국어 발음에 대한 학습에는 적지 않은 의문이 남아 있었다. 『交隣須知』 속에서 한국어 단어를 채취하여 그 발음을 가타카나로 기재해 놓은 『物名』의 존재는 그와 같은 의문을 부분적으로나마 해소하고자 시도한 결과였을 것이다. 그와 같은 점에서 한국어 학습서로서의 『物名』의 가치는 재조명되어야 할 것으로 생각된다.

This paper aims to illuminate the mutual response relationship between Korinshuchi (交隣須知), a Korean language study book in the Edo period, and Butsumyo (物名), a Korean lexicon compiled using it, and, in doing so, to reconstruct the production process of Butsumyo (物名). The result suggests that the existing Butsumyo (物名) is produced based on a new supplementary version of Korinshuchi (交隣須知), which is a further supplementation of the existing Shirozu-bon (the Shirozu edition) or Nagasaki-bon (the Nagasaki edition) of Korinshuchi (交隣須知). In addition, while Korinshuchi (交隣須知) is used as a Korean language textbook, it only contains the Korean text in Hangul accompanied by Japanese translations. This would have created a problem in learning Korean pronunciation. The existence of Butsumyo (物名), which collects Korean words from Korinshuchi (交隣須知) and records the pronunciation in Katakana (片仮名), may have been the result of an attempt to partially resolve such a problem. Accordingly, the value of Butsumyo (物 名) as a Korean language textbook should be re􏰀examined.
