Abstract
To overcome the limitations associated with natural enzymes, ongoing research focuses on the development of materials with enzyme-like functionalities. Nanozymes, particularly those synthesized using nanomaterials, have emerged as promising alternatives that offer improved performance while overcoming the limitations of natural enzymes. Platinum-based nanozymes, known for their ability to mimic various enzymes such as superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT), oxidase and peroxidase, have attracted considerable attention in various fields. This study outlines the production of mesoporous platinum nanoparticles (MPNs) with an average size of 43.2 ± 3.9 nm, which possess peroxidase-mimetic properties. CTAB, a surfactant, was utilized as a stabilizer during the synthesis process. The resulting MPNs exhibited excellent peroxidase-like activity in the reaction of 3,3',5,5'- tetramethylbenzidine (TMB) with hydrogen peroxide (H2O2). The MPNs were utilized for colorimetric detection of H2O2 and glucose. The remarkable limits of detection (LOD) of 1.85 µM for H2O2 and 2.15 µM for glucose highlights the potential of MPNs as effective nanozymes for various colorimetric detection applications.
