19세기 말과 20세기 프랑스 예술가곡에 나타난 중동과 스페인 음악의 영향에 대한 연구

Abstract

본 논문은 19세기 말과 20세기 프랑스 예술가곡에 나타난 중동과 스페인 음악의 영향에 대한 연구를 주제로, 중동과 스페인의 음악적 특징을 연구하고, 프랑스의 이국주의 음악의 대표적인 생상스, 라벨, 이베르의 작품을 분석하여 이들 작품에 나타난 중동 음악과 스페인 음악의 이국적 요소를 파악한다. 생상스(Charles Camille Saint-Saëns, 1835-1921)의 《페르시아 노래들》(Mélodies persanes, op. 26, 1870)은 교회선법 사용과 반복음의 낭송조 선율, 그리고 꾸밈음과 멜리스마 선율로 이국적 분위기를 조성하였고, 중동 음악을 특징짓는 아랍 선번, 오스티나토, 3도와 5도 병행화음, 불협화음정과 비대칭 박자 등을 사용하여 중앙아시아의 이국적 정서를 표현하였다. 라벨(Maurice Ravel, 1875-1937)의 《셰헤라자드》(Shéhérazade, 1903)는 5음음계, 교회선법, 집시음계, 온음음계, 복합박자 등을 사용하여 시인이 갈망하는 동양 세계의 신비로움을 표현하였으며, 연속적인 7화음, 9화음, 11화음 등의 불협화음정과 반음계적 선율의 인상주의 색채를 이국적인 요소와 결합한 기법으로 동양을 내포한 시의 오묘한 분위기를 연출하였다. 또한, 라벨의 《뒬씨네를 향한 돈키호테》(Don quichotte à Dulcinée, 1932-33)는 스페인의 춤곡 리듬을 비롯해 스페인 민요에서 자주 쓰이는 프리지아, 에올리아, 도리아 선법을 사용한 선율로 스페인의 민속적 색채를 풍기며 시의 의미를 담아냈다. 이베르(Jacques François Antoine Ibert, 1890-1962)의 《돈키호테의 노래》(Chansons de Don Quichotte, 1932))는 프리지아, 로크리아, 안달루시아, 에올리아 등의 다양한 선법 사용 및 잦은 변박과 혼합박자 사용, 그리고 빠른 템포 변화로 이국적이면서 정열적인 스페인의 정취를 나타냈다. 이처럼 중동을 중심에 둔 생상스의《페르시아 노래들》과 라벨의 《셰헤라자드》, 그리고 스페인을 중심에 둔 라벨의《뒬씨네를 향한 돈키호테》과 이베르의 《돈키호테의 노래》에 대한 연구는 19세기 말과 20세기 프랑스 예술가곡에 나타난 중동음악과 스페인 음악의 이국주의 요소를 복합적으로 조명할 수 있다는 점에서 의미가 있다.|Abstract A Study on Characteristics of Middle Eastern and Spanish Influences in the Late Nineteenth and the Twentieth Century French mélodies: Focused on Vocal Works by Saint-Saëns, Ravel and Ibert CHEN WEI Department of Music Graduate School of Hanyang University

The aim of this document is to examine the exotic musical influence from the Middle East and Spain that appeared in French art song tradition in the late 19th and 20th centuries. In order to explore this, the general characteristics of the Middle Eastern and Spanish music, and the representative composers from French art Songs of this period, such as Saint-Saëns, Ravel, Ibert, are thoroughly studied with their vocal works. In his Mélodies persanes, op. 26(1870), containing six songs as a collection, Saint-Saëns uses church modes and recitative-like melodies, lots of ornaments, and melisma to create an the exotic atmosphere in his works. Besides he uses ostinato patterns, parallel chords of 3rd and 5th, dissonances, asymmetrical rhythms, and Arabian modes from the Middle Eastern music.. In Ravel’s Shéhérazade(1903), a song cycles of three songs, exotic musical elements, such as a pentatonic scale, church modes, a gypsy scale, a whole-tone scale, and compound meters are often found. With this musical elements, he emphasizes on expression of mysterious longing for the Orients. Dissonant chords such as continuous 7th, 9th, and 11th, and chromatic melodies, which are derived from French Impressionism and Exoticism, deliver the magical poetic atmosphere with oriental charms. On the other hands, musical influences from Spain are found in Don Quichotte à Dulcinée(1932-33) by Ravel; in order to express Don Quichotte's emotion, Ravel shows traditional Spanish dance rhythms and church modes, which are frequently shown in Spanish folk music. In the Chansons de Don Quichotte(1932) by Ibert, various church modes and frequent changing meters are detected. Rapid tempo changes are also the exotic and passionate style of Spanish music. This study on Saint-Saëns’ Mélodies persanes, op. 26 and Ravel’s Shéhérazade, influenced from the Middle Eastern music, and Ravel’s Don Quichotte à Dulcinée and Ibert’s Chansons de Don Quichotte of the Spanish style will be a significantly comprehensive literature reference indicating the exotic elements from the Middle Eastern and Spanish music in the French mélodies of the late 19th and 20th centuries.
