T Development of a Near-Infrared Spectroscopy-based iron plate coating check Sensor and Monitoring System Hee Sang Kwak Dept. of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Graduate School of Hanyang Univeristy Directed by Professor Songjun Lee In this paper, Carbon steel, known for its strength and cost-effectiveness, is widely utilized in the automotive industry. In the 1970s, corrosion issues prompted the introduction of various coatings and treatments to enhance the corrosion performance of automotive components. However, previous studies revealed a significantly higher corrosion rate for plain carbon steel compared to zinc-coated carbon steel in accelerated corrosion tests. To optimize performance and cost-effectiveness, the combination of various materials, such as plain carbon steel and zinc-coated carbon steel, has been explored, showing improved mechanical properties and corrosion resistance in experiments. Given the various production processes and locations in the automotive industry, manually inspecting every sensor or updating sensor software for performance improvement incurs significant labor, cost, and time. In this study, a new sensor based on Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS), a non-destructive testing method, is proposed to accurately classify parts made of plain carbon steel and zinc-coated carbon steel. Considering the diversity of automotive components and production processes, the proposed sensor provides an Auto Calibration feature, confirming its adaptability to real working conditions. Additionally, the sensor enables real-time monitoring and remote software updates, presenting a solution to reduce labor, time, and costs. The proposed method is validated for feasibility by integrating with Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) in actual production processes.-
