스토리텔링 기반 박물관 전시해설 이용자 경험에 관한 사례연구

Abstract

박물관은 이용자에게 전시해설을 통해 전시 자료와 관련된 정보를 제공하고, 다양한 경험을 하게 한다. 박물관 이용자는 전시해설 경험을 기반으로 전시 내용을 이해하고, 전시 자료에 대한 지식과 정보를 습득하게 된다. 특히, 박물관 전시해설 과정에서는 전시해설사, 이용자, 박물관 자료 간의 상호작용이 이루어진다. 박물관 이용자는 전시해설 중 이루어진 상호작용 속에서 스스로 전시 자료에 대한 의미를 찾게 된다. 박물관으로 분류되는 기념관은 특정 인물 또는 사건을 기억·추모하는 공간으로서의 특수성을 가진다. 기념관은 전시 자료를 통해 기념 대상에 대한 정보를 이용자에게 전달한다. 기념관교육은 이용자에게 과거의 역사를 바탕으로, 추모의 대상인 역사적인 인물 또는 사건에 관련된 이야기를 전달하는 역할을 한다. 기념관의 이야기는 스토리텔링 개념에 적용이 가능한 요소를 가지고 있으며, 스토리텔링을 통해 이용자에게 전달되고 있다. 여기서 스토리텔링은 이야기가 전달되는 과정을 의미한다. 스토리텔링은 박물관교육에서 박물관 자료에 대한 이해를 돕고, 이야기 전달을 통해 이용자의 학습 효과를 높인다는 점에서 전시와 교육 등에서 꾸준히 활용되었다. 기념관에서의 스토리텔링 활용은 기념 대상에 대한 역사적 맥락을 이해하게 한다. 역사적 맥락은 인물의 내면을 이해하게 하고, 이용자가 자기 자신을 돌아보는 성찰의 계기가 된다. 이처럼 스토리텔링 기반 기념관교육은 이용자에게 역사적인 인물과 사건을 바탕으로 자신의 정체성을 깨닫게 하는 등의 새로운 경험을 제공한다. 스토리텔링은 박물관 이용자에게 전시 자료에 담긴 이야기를 전달하는 방법으로, 전시해설에 적용할 수 있다. 기념관 전시해설에서 스토리텔링 개념을 활용하는 경우, 전시 자료에 담긴 이야기를 바탕으로 이용자가 역사적인 흐름과 맥락을 이해하게 한다. 본 연구는 기념관의 스토리텔링 기반 전시해설 이용자가 이야기를 통해 특정 인물의 삶과 사상을 이해하는 과정에 주목하여 이용자의 교육적 경험을 살펴보는 것에 목적을 두었다. 이러한 연구 목적에 따라 연구자가 설정한 연구 문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 스토리텔링 기반 전시해설에서 이용자는 인물의 가치관을 어떻게 이해하게 되는가? 둘째, 스토리텔링 기반 전시해설에서 인물을 중심으로 일어나는 사건은 어떠한 특징을 갖는가? 셋째, 스토리텔링 기반 전시해설에서 이용자는 전시 자료를 어떻게 활용하고 있는가? 위의 연구 문제를 설정한 다음, 선행연구를 분석하였다. 첫째, 박물관 전시해설 연구, 둘째, 전시해설사 역할 연구, 셋째, 스토리텔링 기반 박물관교육 연구, 넷째, 기념관 교육의 특성 연구이다. 선행연구를 바탕으로 스토리텔링 개념을 기반으로 구성한 백범김구기념관 전시해설 프로그램을 연구 사례로 선정하고 연구 참여자에게 적용하였다. 연구 참여자는 백범김구기념관 전시해설 경험을 통해 자신만의 의미와 해석을 적극적으로 전달 및 표현할 수 있는 20대 성인 6명을 연구 대상자로 삼았다. 연구 방법은 사례연구로 진행하였으며, 참여 관찰, 심층 인터뷰, 소감문 등의 질적 자료를 수집하였다. 연구 결과, 인물의 삶과 가치관에 대한 이해를 돕는 스토리텔링 기반 기념관 전시해설과 관련된 연구 참여자의 세 가지 교육적 경험을 확인하였다. 첫째, 스토리텔링 기반 기념관 전시해설은 인물이 지닌 삶의 ‘방향성 찾기’를 통해서 연구 참여자들이 인물의 삶을 파악하고, 그들이 지닌 가치관을 유추하게 하였다. 연구 참여자들은 인물이 처한 상황을 이해하는 것과 함께 인물의 심리, 가치관과 같은 그들의 내면을 살펴보는 계기가 되었다. 둘째, 스토리텔링 기반 기념관 전시해설은 인물을 중심으로 이어지는 ‘하나의 이야기’를 통해 연구 참여자들이 인물을 중심으로 일어나는 역사적 사건의 인과관계를 파악하게 하였다. 스토리텔링 기반 전시해설은 사건이 일어난 순서에 따라 내용을 전개하여 연구 참여자들이 이야기의 흐름을 이해하게 하였다. 또한, 인물과 관계된 가벼운 일화들은 이야기 사이를 자연스럽게 연결하는 역할을 하였다. 셋째, 스토리텔링 기반 기념관 전시해설은 경험해보지 못한 역사의 현장에 대해 눈과 귀로 ‘담기’를 함으로써 연구 참여자가 인물이 처한 상황과 역사적 맥락을 이해하게 했다. 연구 참여자는 전시 자료를 바탕으로 스스로 역사적 사건과 관련하여 탐구하고 상상하였다. 본 연구는 기념관 전시와 교육 특성을 고려하여 스토리텔링 개념을 기념관 전시해설 프로그램에 적용하고, 이용자의 교육적 경험을 분석한 연구이다. 스토리텔링 기반 기념관 전시해설은 이용자에게 역사적인 인물의 삶과 가치관을 전달하고 있다는 점에서, 인물을 이해하는데 효과적인 교육 방식임을 알 수 있었다. 기념관 전시해설에 적용된 스토리텔링 구성요소는 연구 참여자들이 구체적인 과거의 역사 속에서 인물의 삶을 살펴보도록 했다. 기념관 전시해설은 인물을 둘러싼 여러 맥락을 이해할 수 있는 이야기를 제공하여 연구 참여자가 인물의 삶과 사상을 이해하는 데 도움을 주었다. 특히, 이러한 경험을 바탕으로, 연구 참여자들이 기념관 안팎에서 인물을 추모하고 기억할 수 있음을 확인하였다. 궁극적으로 스토리텔링 기반 기념관 전시해설은 기념관에서 현세대에 인물의 삶과 사상을 전달하는 활동으로 인물에 대한 심층적 이해와 함께 추모하고 기억하는 마음가짐으로 이어지게 했다.|The museum provides users with information related to exhibition materials through guided tours and allows them to have various experiences. Museum users understand the contents of the exhibition and acquire knowledge and information about the exhibition materials based on the experience of guided tours. In particular, during the museum guided tours process, interactions between guided tours, users, and museum materials take place. Museum users find the meaning of the exhibition materials on their own in the interaction made during the guided tours. A memorial museum classified as a museum has a specificity as a space to remember and remember specific people or events. The memorial museum delivers information on the commemorative object to users through exhibition materials. Memorial museum education plays a role in conveying stories related to historical figures or events that are objects of remembrance to users based on past history. The story of the memorial museum has elements that can be applied to the concept of storytelling and is delivered to users through storytelling. Here, storytelling refers to the process in which the story is delivered. Storytelling has been steadily used in exhibitions and education in that it helps understand museum materials in museum education and increases the learning effect of users through storytelling. The use of storytelling in the memorial museum allows us to understand the historical context of the commemorative object. The historical context allows users to understand the inner side of the character and serves as an opportunity for reflection on themselves. As such, storytelling-based memorial museum education provides users with new experiences such as realizing their identity based on historical characters and events. Storytelling is a method of delivering stories contained in exhibition materials to museum users, and can be applied to guided tours. When using the concept of storytelling in the guided tours of the museum, it allows users to understand the historical flow and context based on the stories contained in the exhibition materials. This study aims to examine the educational experiences of users by paying attention to the process of users of the museum's storytelling-based guided tours understanding the lives and ideas of a specific person through stories. The research problems set by the researcher according to this research purpose are as follows. First, how does the user understand people’s values in storytelling-based guided tours? Second, what are the characteristics of events centered on characters in storytelling-based guided tours? Third, how do users use exhibition materials in storytelling-based guided tours? After setting up the above research problems, previous studies were analyzed. First, it is the study of museum guided tours, second, the study of the role of exhibition commentator, third, the study of museum education based on storytelling, and fourth, the study of the characteristics of memorial museum education. Based on previous studies, Kim Koo Museum & Library guided tours program, which was organized based on the concept of storytelling, was selected as a research case and applied to research participants. Participants in the study selected six adults in their 20s who can actively convey and express their own meanings and interpretations through the experience of guided tours at the Kim Koo Museum & Library. The research method was conducted as a case study, and qualitative data such as participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and impressions were collected. As a result of the study, three educational experiences of research participants related to the storytelling-based memorial guided tours that helps them understand the lives and values of the characters were identified. First, the storytelling-based memorial guided tours allowed research participants to grasp the life of the person and infer their values through the "finding the direction" of the person's life. Participants in the study understood the situation of the person and became an opportunity to examine their inner selves such as the psychology and values of the person. Second, the storytelling-based memorial guided tours allowed research participants to grasp the causal relationship of historical events centered on characters through a "one story" that follows around characters. The storytelling-based guided tours developed the contents according to the order in which the events occurred so that the study participants could understand the flow of the story. In addition, light anecdotes related to characters played a role in naturally connecting stories. Third, the storytelling-based memorial museum guided tours allowed the study participants to understand the situation and historical context of the person by "containing" the scene of history they had never experienced with their eyes and ears. Participants in the study explored and imagined historical events on their own based on exhibition data. This study applies the concept of storytelling to the memorial guided tours program in consideration of the exhibition and educational characteristics of the memorial museum and analyzes the educational experience of users. It was found that the storytelling-based memorial museum guided tours is an effective educational method for understanding characters in that it conveys the life and values of historical characters to users. The storytelling components applied to the guided tours of the memorial museum allowed the study participants to look at the lives of the characters in the specific past history. The guided tours at the memorial museum provided a story that could understand various contexts surrounding the character, helping study participants understand the life and thoughts of the character. In particular, based on these experiences, it was confirmed that the study participants could commemorate and remember the characters inside and outside the memorial museum. Ultimately, the storytelling-based guided tours at the memorial museum is an activity that conveys the lives and thoughts of the characters to the current generation, leading to an in-depth understanding of the characters and a mindset to remember and remember them.
