교사의 흡연 청소년 지도 경험에 대한 질적 연구

Abstract

본 연구는 6명의 교사를 대상으로 흡연 청소년 지도 경험을 심층적으로 이해하고자 시행되었다. 개별적 심층인터뷰를 통하여 자료를 수집한 후, Stake(1995)가 제시한 ‘사례 내 분석’과 ‘사례 간 분석’ 방법을 통하여 분석한 결과 교사인식과 태도와 관련된 10개의 주제가 도출 되었다. ‘여전히 많은 흡연 청소년: 특성화 고에서’는 특성화고 청소년 흡연 실태를 보여준다. ‘더 이상 큰 문제가 아닌 흡연’은 학교 내외에서 우울, 자살, 교권침해, 폭력, 절도, 도박 등 사회적으로 심각한 문제들이 많이 발생하고 있어 그에 비해 가볍게 취급되는 흡연에 대한 이야기다. ‘점차 줄어들고 있는 흡연 청소년’은 사회적 금연 움직임과 학교의 금연 및 흡연예방교육의 영향으로 흡연 청소년이 줄어드는 것을 의미하며, ‘흡연 단속이 어려워 짐’은 전자담배의 사용과 교권추락과 같은 변화 속에 흡연 단속의 어려움을 나타내며, ‘마음을 보듬는 게 먼저’는 힘든 상황 속에 있는 아이들의 마음을 먼저 보듬어야 그 다음에 흡연지도가 될 수 있다는 말이다. ‘조기교육이 중요’는 고등학교 흡연자들의 대부분이 초중학교에서 피고 오기 때문에 어릴 때 교육하는 것이 보다 더 효과적이라는 결과를 보여준다. 그 밖에 교사 태도와 관련된 범주로 ‘징계’는 흡연 적발 시 징계를 주는 교사의 태도를 말하며, ‘지도’는 말로 하는 지도로 학교 내와 학교 밖으로 구분하여 제시하였다.‘회피’는 흡연 지도 시 아이들의 반항과 욕설로 갈등을 빚게 될까봐 지도를 회피한다. 또한, 길거리 흡연 청소년은 보복의 두려움으로 대부분 모른 척한다. ‘방임’은 학생들과 트러블이 생길까봐 흡연을 내버려두는 것이고, ‘금연 및 흡연 예방교육’은 그것을 진행하는 내용을 담았다. 그 중 일반교사들은 ‘효과없음’에 대한 이야기를 보건교사는 ‘효과있음’에 대한 이야기가 많다. 보건교사는 일반교사와 달리 전문성을 가지고 다각적인 접근을 하고 있었다. 본 연구는 청소년 흡연 예방교육과 금연교육의 주체로서 학교의 중요성을 인식하고, 일선에서 흡연 학생들을 가장 근접하게 지도하는 사람인 교사들의 청소년 흡연 지도 경험의 생생한 이야기를 통하여 효과적인 흡연예방 교육과 금연 교육의 정책적 방향을 모색하는데 의의가 있다.|Abstract Lee, Younghye Dept. of Counseling Psychology The Graduate school of Education Hanyang University

This study was conducted with six teachers to understand of their experiences of teaching smoking students. After collecting data through individual in-depth interviews, the data were analyzed using Stake's (1995) within-case analysis and between-case analysis methods, and 10 themes related to teacher knowledge and attitudes emerged. “A Lot of Smokers are Still in the School: in Vocational High Schools” shows the prevalence of smoking in vocational high schools. "Smoking is No Longer a Big Problem" is a story about smoking that is treated lightly in comparison to other serious social problems such as depression, suicide, school disruption, violence, theft, and gambling in and around schools. "Getting Fewer Smoking Students" refers to the decrease in the number of students who smoke due to the social movement against smoking and the impact of smoking cessation and smoking prevention education in schools, "It is Difficult to Find out Smoking Students" refers to the difficulty of controlling smoking amidst changes such as the use of e-cigarettes and the fall of school authority, and "Understanding Their Hearts First" means that the hearts of student in difficult situations must be comforted first, and then smoking guidance can be given. "Early Education is Important" shows that most high school smokers start smoking in elementary and middle school, so it is more effective to educate them when they are younger. Other categories related to teacher attitudes include "discipline," which refers to teachers' attitudes toward disciplining students who are caught smoking, and "guidance," which refers to verbal guidance in and out of school. "Avoidance," which refers to teachers avoiding guidance because they are afraid that it will lead to conflicts with students's rebellion and swearing. In addition, street smokers are often ignored for fear of retaliation. "Neglect" means leaving smoking alone for fear of getting into trouble with students, while "smoking cessation and smoking prevention education" is about doing something about it. Among them, most of teachers talk about ineffectiveness, while nursing teachers talk about effectiveness. Unlike teachers, nursing teachers have specialized and multifaceted approaches. This study recognizes the importance of schools as the main institute in youth smoking prevention and cessation education and seeks to explore policy directions for effective smoking prevention and cessation education through the vivid stories of teachers' experiences in teaching youth smoking, who are the people who closely guide smoking students on the cutting edge.
