Abstract
The modern design has been changing into one dominating a human-centered life, which was neglected for a long time because of the past mechanical production system. Beyond the productive aspect and aesthetic aspect pursuing fashion trends, the modern design puts on more emphasis on the communication between nature, society and human nature as more complex approaches, thus making designers more deeply approach consumers’ emotional factors when designing new products. Such a change in design implies that the modern design is being positioned as one of the most important domains for the modern society, while pursuing the settlement of social problems, resulting in the coexistence of a state and citizens. Besides, as the term, ‘Service Design’, has been popular as a buzzword for the past years, the hospital design is attracting a lot of attention as a typical domain of the service design. In fact, the service design, attracting lots of attention in Korea a present, is rather similar to the commercial design domin ated by a business perspective based on the creation of profits. Due to the rapidly-increasing number of nuclear families, families’ function to support elderly people is being weakened, and as the number of healthy elderly one-person households is sharply increasing, there are more demands for concrete policy implementation directions for the relevant welfare and healing environments according to the physical and sociopsychological characteristics of the elderly people. Thus, this study aims to investigate the present states of the space design of oversea and domestic medical centers for healing, and it is expected that the results of this study will be used as basic materials helpful for the space design of medical centers for healing which can carefully consider patients’ psychological states and the range of their activities in the coexistence with nature.
