이탈리아의 현대 장신구에 대한 연구 - 파반과 바베토의 장신구를 중심으로 -

Abstract

1960년대에 이전과는 완전히 다른 형태의 현대 장신구가 네덜란드, 독일, 이탈리아에서 거의 동시적으로 나타난다. 본 논문은 현대 장신구의 중요한 한 축을 이루고 있지만 지금까지 그다지 연구되지 않은 이탈리아 현대 장신구의 특성을 알아보는 것을 목표로 했다. 이를 위해서 파반과 바베토라는 두 명의 장신구작가의 작품들을 분석하고 비교해서 알아보았다.

파반과 바베토를 위시한 파도바 파의 장신구는 금을 주재료로 사용하면서 그 물성을 다양하게 이용하고, 조형에 있어서는 건축적이고 기학학적인 디자인이 기본 토대를 이룬다. 이를 토대로 이들은 다른 장르, 예컨대 건축이나 회화의 구성요소나 작업방식을 장신구에 접목시킨다. 장르의 융합이나 이를 통한 디자인의 혁신은 환경적인 요인을 갖고 있다. 이들이 태어나고 자란 파도바는 이탈리아 르네상스의 중심지였으며, 이 문화적 환경이 이들에게 영향을 끼친 것이다. 파반과 바베토의 건축적이고 조각과 같은 장신구에 있어서 사용된 조화, 비례, 균형 등의 심미적 구성요소들은 이에 근거해 있다. 그러나 파반이나 바베토의 장신구의 개별적 특성도 분명히 존재한다. 이 차별성은 완전히 서로 다른 디자인의 특성에 기초해 있다. 다른 예술장르와의 소통의 관점에서 보면, 전자의 경우는 구조주의적인 격자형태의 수용, 후자의 경우는 회화의 직접 인용이라는 차이가 존재한다. 보다 분명한 경우는 서로 비슷한 건축적, 기하학적 디자인이더라도 작품으로서의 장신구는 저마다 독특한 개성을 나타낸다.

이탈리아 파도바 파의 장신구가 지닌 현대성은 따라서 장신구 디자인과 조형의 관점에서, 재료의 물성을 그것의 가치나 멋있고 화려하게 보이는 관점에서가 아니라, 장신구를 통해 어떤 메시지를 전달하려고 하는가의 관점에서 고려해야 함을 보여준다. 뿐만 아니라 건축이나 회화의 구성요소들도 장신구의 조형요소로 이용될 수 있음을 보여주고, 이런 모든 것들이 장신구의 심미성으로 승화됨으로써 장신구 디자인과 조형은 외부의 사물이나 개인적인 취향을 넘어서서 다른 예술장르와의 소통을 새로운 방향으로 제시한다.;In the 60s of the 20th century appears modern jewelry, which is designed completely different than before, in Netherlands, Germany and Italy. This paper focuses on charkterizing modern Italian jewelry, which is certainly a part of main stream of Modern jewelry, but have been studied little. To this aim are the works of two masters, Pavan and Babetto from Padova analized and compared. Padova‘s jewelry including those of Pavan and Babetto have two things in common. One is that main material is gold and its attributes are well utilized in various ways in case of jewlry. The other is the fact that their fundamental designs are based on architecture and geometry, which are shown in cases of object. However, only with these aspects can not be summarized their unique designs. Pavan and Babetto applied the components and working styles of architecture and paintings to jewelry. Their innovational designs by unifying different genres resulted from cultural environment. padova, where they were born and raised, was the center of Italian Renaissance and this cultural environment had great influence on padova Art School and its students. It would be no exaggeration to say that aesthetic components of harmony, proportion and balance can be traced back to Italian Renaissance. However, all the distinguishing features of jewelry created by Pavan and Babetto each cannot be explained in the common aspects mentioned so far. That is because the works of these two masters have different features from each other in specific areas. These different features are stemmed from totally different characteristics of their designs. For instance, in respect of communicating with other genres, especially with paintings, the former takes the structural lattice shape while the latter takes paintings directly. Even similar designs in terms of architectural and geometrical aspects did result in completely different works of jewelry. The modernity of the Padua jewelry school shows in the aspect of jewelery design and creation, that the material should not be chosen according to the economic value nor the pageantry, but then to the message that can be conveyed thereby. It also makes clear that elements of the architecture and painting can be incorporated in the jewelry. While all of this being integrated into the beauty of the jewelry, the design and creation of Italian jewelry presents a new direction, which bases, beyond the things of the external world or personal asthetic taste, on the communication with other genres of art.
