창업 실패 두려움이 창업 의도에 미치는 영향: 창업지원정책의 조절효과를 중심으로

Abstract

As a central measure to address social issues such as national economic development and job creation, a variety of efforts to activate entrepreneurship on a national level are being continued. The importance of entrepreneurial intention in relation to entrepreneurial activation in particular has been recognized, and many studies regarding a variety of variables attempting to increase it have been executed. However, despite the wealth of existing literature, the reality is that studies that clearly expose the structural relationship between variables regarding influential factors of entrepreneurial intention are insufficient, and there is a demand for continuous related research. Moreover, the majority of prior research has been centered on the positive relationship between variables, shown through entrepreneurship, self-efficacy, and entrepreneurship education, etc. On the other hand, research clarifying the relationship between entrepreneurial intention and fear of start-up failure, a factor known to form a negative relationship, is insufficient. In addition, there is a need to expand the research to investigate the significant variable of utilizing government entrepreneurship -supportive policies as a factor for positively alleviating the relationship between the fear of start-up failure and entrepreneurial intention. Thus, this study aims to clarify the relationship between the fear of start-up failure and entrepreneurial intention and define the role of government entrepreneurship-supportive policies regarding said relationship. To this end, first, this study shows the kind of influence each subfactor of the fear of start-up failure has on entrepreneurial intention, and second, shows the nature of the moderating effect government entrepreneurship- supportive policies has on the relationship between the fear of start-up failure and entrepreneurial intention. To verify these relationships, this study conducted a survey on approximately 350 students of varying majors attending universities in Seoul, the Gyeonggi provincial area, and the Chungnam provincial area. Empirical analysis through SPSS based on these survey responses was conducted for verification, and the results of this study are as follows. First, out of the subfactors of the fear of start-up failure, the fear of financial loss and career loss had significant negative effects on entrepreneurial intention. On the contrary, the fear of psychological loss did not show significant effects. In addition, government supportive policies had a significant positive moderating effect on the relationship between the fear of start-up failure and entrepreneurial intention. Through said empirical analysis, this study aimed to empirically identify the relationship between he fear of start-up failure and entrepreneurial intention and systematically verify what matters are necessary at a governmental level in order to mitigate the fear of start-up failure in students that are potential entrepreneurs and increase entrepreneurial intention by examining the moderating effects of government supportive policies. Also, on the basis of the results of this study, this study aims to identify theoretical implications as well as the practical implications necessary to establish policies and institutions for actual potential entrepreneurs. | 창업은 국가 경제 발전과 일자리 창출 등의 사회적 이슈를 해결할 수 있는 주요 방안으로 전 세계적으로 국가 차원에서 창업 활성화를 위해 다양한 노력을 지속하고 있다. 특히, 창업 활성화와 관련하여 창업 의도의 중요성을 인지하고, 이를 향상시키고자 하는 다양한 변수에 대한 연구가 수행되었다. 하지만, 많은 선행 연구에도 불구하고 창업 의도의 영향요인에 관한 변수들의 구조적 관계를 명확하게 밝히는 연구는 미흡한 실정이며, 지속적인 연구의 필요성이 요구되고 있다. 또한, 대부분의 선행 연구는 기업가정신, 자기 효능감, 창업 교육 등 변수들 간의 긍정적 관계에 초점을 맞춰 연구가 진행되어 왔다. 반면에, 부정적인 관계를 형성하고 있는 창업 실패 두려움과 창업 의도의 관계를 규명하고자 하는 국내 연구는 미흡한 실정이다. 더불어, 창업 실패 두려움과 창업 의도와의 관계를 긍정적으로 완화할 수 있는 요인으로 정부의 창업지원정책을 활용하여 의미 있는 변수에 대한 관련 연구 확장의 필요성이 요구되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 창업 실패 두려움과 창업 의도의 관계를 명확하게 하고, 이들 관계에서 정부 창업지원정책의 역할을 규명하고자 하였다. 이를 위해 첫째, 창업 실패 두려움의 각각의 하위요인이 창업 의도에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 이론적 배경 및 선행연구를 검토한 후 실증분석을 통해 이를 검증하고, 둘째, 창업지원정책이 실패 두려움과 창업 의도와의 관계에서 어떠한 조절 효과를 나타내는지 역시 실증분석을 통해 검증하고자 한다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 수도권과 충청권 소재의 대학에 재학 중인 다양한 전공의 학생 약 350명을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 이들의 응답을 바탕으로 SPSS 위계적 회귀분석을 활용하여 실증분석을 통해 검증하였으며, 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 창업 실패 두려움 가운데 재무적 손실 두려움, 경력적 손실 두려움은 창업 의도에 유의한 부(-)의 영향을 나타냈다. 반면에, 심리적 손실 두려움은 유의한 결과를 나타내지 못했다. 또한, 창업 실패 두려움과 창업 의도와의 관계에서 정부의 창업지원정책은 유의한 정(+)의 조절효과를 나타냈다. 이러한 실증분석을 통해 창업 실패 두려움과 창업 의도의 관계를 실증적으로 규명하고자 하였으며, 창업지원정책의 조절효과를 살펴봄으로써 잠재적 창업자인 학생들의 창업 실패 두려움을 완화하고, 창업 의도 향상을 위해 정부 차원에서 필요한 사안이 무엇인지 체계적으로 검증하고자 하였다. 더 나아가, 본 연구의 결과를 기반으로 학문적인 기여도를 파악하고, 실제 잠재적 창업자들을 위한 정책 및 제도 수립에 필요한 실무적 시사점을 제시하고자 한다.
