오브제를 활용한 다원적 메커니즘 표현 요소 및 모형 연구

Abstract

최근 유럽에서 활약하고 있는 현대무용 안무가 중 알렉산더 에크만(Alexander Ekman)의 독특한 무용 창작 스타일이 주목받고 있다. 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 작품은 예술 창작의 중요한 표현 수단으로, 다양한 오브제를 사용함으로써 짙은 시각적 효과와 극적인 무용 작품을 만들어낸다. 그는 무용수로 활동하면서 지리 킬리안(Jiří Kylián), 마츠 에크(Mats Ek) 등 세계 유명한 안무가들과 함께 작업을 한 적이 있다. 젊은 안무가로서 세계적인 안무 대상인 누차를 수상하고, 세계적으로 유명한 무용단에서 초청을 받아 여러 무용 작품을 창작하였다. 하지만 지금까지 알렉산더 에크만에 대한 국내외 학술 논문들은 소수에 불과하며, 특히 박사 논문 연구는 부재한 실정이다. 또한 알렉산더 에크만의 전체적인 무용 작품이나 창작 특징에 대한 종합적인 연구가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 이에 본 연구는 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 작품 세계에 대한 학문적 이해와 연구를 위해 다양한 오브제와 표현 요소를 융합한 알렉산더 에크만의 대표적인 작품 <A Swan Lake>, <Play>, <Midsummer Night’s Dream>을 중심으로 분석을 진행하고자 한다. 먼저, 무용 작품의 오브제 구성에 대해 분석한다. 또한 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 작품에 나타난 다원적 표현 요소들(무용적, 연극적, 음악적, 패션적, 영상적 표현 요소)을 전체적으로 고찰하여 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 작품의 안무 공통점을 근거하여 세 가지 다원적 퍼포먼스 메커니즘의 모형을 제시하고자 한다. 또한, 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 창작 스타일은 고찰하였다. 이러한 과정을 통하여 다음과 같은 결론을 도출된다. 본 연구는 예술장르별 다원적 메키너즘, 오브제의 다원적 메커니즘, 시·청각적 다원적 메커니즘 등 세 가지 차원의 메커니즘 모형을 제시하였다. 첫째, 예술장르별 다원적 메커니즘 모형으로서, 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 작품에 활용된 패션(F), 연극(T), 음악(M), 영상(V) 등 네 가지 구성 요소를 적용하여 알렉산더 에크만의 예술장르별 다원적 메커니즘 모형을 제시하였다. 이와 같은 네 가지 예술적 요소의 유기적인 융합과 주제화 원칙(T원칙)을 통해 마지막으로 알렉산더 에크만 자신만의 고유한 창작 스타일을 갖춘 무용작품(D)을 도출하였다. 둘째, 오브제의 다원적 메커니즘 모형으로서, 알렉산더 에크만은 무용 작품 속 오브제 집합체(OA)의 구조를 핵심 오브제(CO)와 확장 오브제(O1+O2+O3+O4+O5+...On)로 구성하였다. 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 작품에서 오브제의 다양한 활용 방식을 탐색함으로써 무용 작품 속 오브제의 여섯 가지 특징(MESOIS), 움직임 특성(M), 오락적 특성(E), 상징적 특성(S), 독창적 특성(O), 상호작용적 특성(I), 사운드 특성(S)을 만들어냈다. 셋째, 시·청각적 다원적 메커니즘 모형으로서, 시각적인 스타일(VS)과 청각적인 스타일(AS)의 상호작용을 바탕으로 알렉산더 에크만 무용작품의 전체적인 스타일(DS)을 제시하였다. 요컨대 알렉산더 에크만 무용 창작 속 메커니즘 모형의 분석을 종합하면, 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 창작 스타일은 다음과 같은 특징이 나타난다. 첫째, 알렉산더 에크만의 작품은 오락이라는 키워드와 밀접한 관련이 있다. 둘째, 참신하고 창조적인 방식으로 무용을 연출해 놀라움을 자아낸다. 셋째, 타이밍을 잡아당겨 작품 속에 관객들을 지속적으로 몰입시킨다. 넷째, 몽환적, 연극적, 초현실적 화풍을 띠고 있다. 본 연구는 현재 알렉산더 에크만에 관한 학술 연구가 공백인 상황에서, 이론적 모형을 제시함으로써 향후 연구를 위한 방향을 제시하였고 또한 알렉산더 에크만의 무용 창작의 다원적 메커니즘에 관한 모형 연구의 결과를 바탕으로 학술적 참고자료로 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

| Abstract

Recently, Alexander Ekman's unique dance creation style among modern dance choreographers active in Europe is drawing attention. Alexander Ekman's choreography creates profound visual effects and dramatic dance pieces by using various objects. As a dancer, he has worked with world-famous choreographers such as J̌í Kylíán, Mats Ek. As a young choreographer, he won the world-renowned choreography grand prize, and created several dance works by being invited by the world-famous dance troupe NDT, the Paris Opera Ballet of France, and The Gotborg Opera. However, so far, there are only a few domestic and foreign academic papers on Alexander Ekman, and in particular, there is no research on doctoral papers. In addition, there is no comprehensive study of Alexander Ekman's overall dance work or creative characteristics. Therefore, this study aims to conduct an analysis focusing on Alexander Ekman's representative works <A Swan Lake>, <Play>, and <Midsummer Night's Dream>, which combine various objects and expressive elements for an academic understanding and study of Alexander Ekman's world of dance works. By examining the objects and pluralistic expressive elements(dance, theatre, music, fashion and video elements of expressive) in Alexander Ekman's dance work as a whole, present a model of three Multiple performance mechanisms based on the choreography commonality of Alexander Ekman's dance work. In addition, Alexander Ekman's dance creation style was examined. Through this process, the following conclusions are drawn. This study presented a three mechanism model such as Multiple mechanism by art genre, Multiple mechanism of objects, and visual and auditory Multiple mechanism. First, as a Multiple mechanism model for art genre, Alexander Ekman's Multiple mechanism model was presented by applying four components: fashion (F), theatre (T), music (M), and video (V) used in Alexander Ekman's dance work. Finally, Alexander Ekman derived a dance work (D) with his own unique creative style through the organic fusion of these four artistic elements and the principle of thematization. Second, as a Multiple mechanism model of objects, Alexander Ekman has constructed the core object (CO) and extended object (O3+O4+O5+...On) is configured. By exploring various ways of using objects in Alexander Ekman's dance work, six features (MESOIS), movement characteristics (M), entertainment characteristics (E), symbolic characteristics (S), original characteristics (O), interactive characteristics (I), and sound characteristics (S) were created. Third, as a visual and auditory Multiple mechanism model, the overall style of Alexander Ekman's dance work(DS) was presented based on the interaction between visual style (VS) and auditory style (AS). In conclusion, a comprehensive analysis of the model of Multiple mechanism in Alexander Ekman's choreography reveals the following characteristics of Alexander Ekman's choreographic style. Firstly, Alexander Ekman's work is closely related to the keyword entertainment. Second, creates surprise by directing dance in a novel and creative way. Third, continuously immerse the audience in the work by pulling on the timing. Fourthly, the dance work has a dreamy, dramatic and surreal style. In the absence of academic research on Alexander Ekman, this study suggested a direction for future research by presenting a theoretical model, and it is expected that it can be used as an academic reference based on the results of the model study on the Multiple mechanism of dance creation by Alexander Ekman.
