자녀수가 이혼율에 미치는 영향

Abstract

한국 사회의 이혼율은 OECD 국가 평균보다 높은 수준을 나타내는 반면 츨산율은 지속적으로 감소하는 추세를 보인다. 이론적으로 저출산율은 자녀의 수를 낮춰 이혼율에 영향을 끼칠 수 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 한국총인구조사 데이터를 토대로 자녀 수가 이혼율에 미치는 영향을 연구한다. 본 연구는 쌍둥이 출산을 도구변수로 사용하여 출산 결정에서 발생할 수 있는 내생성 문제를 통제하였다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 자녀 수가 1명 이상일 경우 추가적인 자녀는 이혼율을 0.5%p 증가시켰으며, 자녀 수가 2명 이상인 경우에는 추가적인 자녀가 이혼율을 0.2%p 감소시키는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 자녀의 수가 3명 이상인 경우에는, 자녀의 수가 이혼율에 통계학적으로 유의한 영향을 미치지 못했다. 아울러 이질성 검정(heterogeneity test)에서는 자녀의 수가 증가할수록 고학력 집단에서는 이혼율이 낮아지고, 저학력 집단에서는 이혼율이 높아지는 것으로 나타났다.|At present, the divorce rate of Korea is increasing, while its new born population is dropping dramatically. The stability of the marital relationship is of great significance for the life of the couple and the growth of children. However, the divorce rate is influenced by not only the number of children but also the low fertility rate. Based on the data from the Korean Population Census, this study explores the impact of the number of children on the divorce rate, and takes twins as tools to control the possible endogenous problem of fertility decision-making. According to the empirical results, having only one child increases the divorce rate by 0.5%p and having two children reduces the divorce rate by 0.2%p. When the number of children is at least three, an increase in the number of children has no statistical effect on the divorce rate. Meanwhile, the heterogeneity test reveals that the increase of the number of children will reduce the divorce rate for the group with higher education, while it will increase the divorce rate for the group with lower education.
