872년 황룡사구층탑 찰주 드잡이 방법 추론 연구

Abstract

경주 황룡사구층탑은 645년 신축 후, 수차례 재해와 건축을 반복하다가 1238년 병화(兵火)되어 오늘날에는 기초부만 남아있다. 이 중 찰주초석(심초석) 사리공에서 발견된 사리함에는 872년 11월 25일(음)에 써진 「황룡사찰주본기」라는 제목의 사리기가 있다. 여기에는 872년 당시 사리를 걱정한 경문왕의 명령으로 황룡사구층탑의 찰주(刹柱, 심주)를 들어 사리를 확인했고 19일 후 사리를 되돌려 놓으면서 본 문헌을 기록했다는 상황을 담고 있다. 다만, 이 기록을 통해서 어떻게 찰주를 들었고 「황룡사찰주본기」가 새겨진 사리함(높이 22.5cm)을 봉안했는지 확인 할 수는 없다. 이에 본 연구는 872년 황룡사구층탑 찰주를 든 방법을 추론하여 황룡사구층탑에 남아있는 수수께끼 중 하나를 풀고자 하였다.

연구방법은 먼저 황룡사구층탑과 관련된 유구현황, 문헌, 기타 목탑들의 찰주를 조사하였고 기둥을 드는 공법인 드잡이에 대해서는 문헌, 시공사례, 장인과의 인터뷰, 저자 본인의 경험 등을 통해 드잡이 도구와 공법을 수집하였다. 이를 바탕으로 마치 시공계획을 하듯이 시간순서로 공정을 적어보거나 그 모습을 스케치하며 만든 가설들 중 872년 황룡사구층탑에서 찰주를 드잡이하기에 적합한 방법을 추론하였다.;According to 「Hwangnyongsa Temple Central Column Record」 among the remaining documents,under reconstruction the pagoda of Hwangnyongsa&s 9th floor was completed in July 872 on thelunar calendar. At that time, King Kyeongmun worried about sarira under its central column, sayingthe central column does not move, and then He ordered to lift the central column. So his servantslifted it on November 6th 872 and checked the sarira and put it back on November 25th on the lunarcalendar.

「Hwangnyongsa Temple Central Column Record」 did not document how to lift the central columnwhich is tens of meters. therefore, this study inferred the way the central column of the pagoda ofHwangnyongsa was lifted in 872, left as a mystery. For that, this study set various hypotheses and itresearched and analyzed hoisting technique that is a way to lift the pagoda of Hwangnyongsa and acolumn. In conclusion, this study inferred the most suitable hoisting technique for the pagoda ofHwangnyongsa at that time, based on the research and analysis of each chapter.
