조선 전기 처용무의 변화양상 고찰 - 세종 대와 성종 대를 중심으로 -

Abstract

처용무의 역사에 있어 조선 시대는 처용무의 틀을 확립한 시기이다. 이전의 1인 혹은 2인에 의해 주술적, 놀이적 차원에서 행해졌던 처용무가 조선 시대 유교의 영향을 받아 음양오행 사상을 내포하게 되었고 그에 따라 춤이 확대되고 정리되었다. 이러한 변화와 발전으로 처용무는 지속적으로 국연의 한 종목으로 존립할 수 있었으며 오늘날까지 이어질 수 있었다. 본 연구는 현행 처용무가 한층 완성도 있는 모습으로 변화할 수 있었던 조선 전기의 세종 대와 성종 대를 중심으로 변화양상을 분석하는 데 초점을 맞춰 진행하였다. 역사적 사실을 토대로 결과를 도출하기 위해 조선왕조실록, 악학궤범, 용재총화 등 그 시대의 원서를 분석하였고 그 내용을 담고 있는 선행논문, 학술지, 서적을 통해 처용무를 분석하는 것으로 연구를 진행하였다. 또한 과거의 기록 해석에 있어 해석자의 주관적인 견해가 발생할 수도 있는 점에 그 제한점을 두었다. 춤은 그 시대의 시대상을 잘 담아낸다. 그렇기에 몸으로 춤을 추기에 앞서 머리로 이해하고 가슴으로 느낀 다음 몸을 통해 표현해낸다면 보다 나은 춤을 관객들에게 선사할 수 있을 것이다. 이 자료가 우리 춤을 아끼고 사랑하는 이들이 춤을 보다 심도 있게 이해하고 출 수 있는데 도움이 되길 기대한다. During Joseon Dynasty, Cheoyongmu established its unique format. Compared to early years of the dance when it was performed by one or two dancers in the form of shamanic rituals or leisure activities, Cheoyongmu started to incorporate the concept of “Yin-Yang and five elements” under the influence of neo-confucianism which dominated the Joseon Dynasty, therefore expanding its horizon and getting its form. Based on these series of changes and development, Cheoyongmu was able to keep existing as a form of national banquet up until present days. This study focuses on analyzing the changes of cheoyongmu in the early years of Joseon Dynasty, especially during the era of King Sejong and King Seonjong when the dance gained its complete form. This study reviewed old documents like Joseonwangjosillilok [Annals of the Joseon Dynasty], Akhakgwebeom, and Yongjechonghwa, and analyzes preceding studies, journals, and books that cover related topics. The limitation was placed on the fact that the interpreter's subjective views may arise in interpreting historical records. Dance contains the characteristics of the age. Therefore, if dancers understand the dance with brain and feels it with heart before starting to dance, they could give better dance to spectators. It is expected that this study will help those who love Korean dance to understand it more deeply.
