한국 프로야구에서 효율성 높은 투수가 팀의 포스트 시즌 진출에 미치는 영향에 대한 DEA 활용 분석

Abstract

한국 프로야구는 2006년 WBC(World baseball classic) 참가해 우수한 성적을 거두며 세계무대에 이름을 알린 시기를 기점으로 폭발적인 관객 수 증가를 했고 선수들의 연봉 또한 높게 책정되기 시작했다. FA(Free Trading) 선수들의 몸값 또한 더욱 상승하였고 이 때문에 발생하는 이슈 중 하나인 선수의 무분별한 몸값 인상은 구단, 팀 내부 결속력을 넘어 경기력에 부정적인 영향을 끼치는 것으로 나타났다. 2017년 기준 최소 연봉자와 최대 연봉자는 최대 93배가 차이가 나는 데 반해 FA다년계약 선수들의 기록과 팀에 미치는 영향은 평균 연봉을 받는 선수들과 큰 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났으며 구단의 70~80%의 비용이 선수 연봉으로 사용되고 있어 효율적인 운영을 위한 선수 가치평가가 시급한 상황이다. 하지만 이와 관련된 연구는 선수 개인의 효율성과 구단 운영 효율성 평가가 대부분이며 연봉책정을 위해 선수 가치를 평가하는 데 있어 효율성 높은 선수가 팀 순위에 미치는 영향에 대한 논문은 미미한 상황이다. 이에 본 연구는 한국 프로야구 투수를 대상으로 자료 포락 분석(DEA)을 활용하여 선수 효율성을 측정하고 팀의 포스트 시즌 진출과의 상관관계를 분석함으로써 구단에 객관적인 선수 가치평가 도입을 통한 연봉책정의 중요성을 제고 하는데 그 목적을 두고 있다. 본 연구에서 사용한 자료 포락 분석은 투입물 대비 산출량을 통해 효율성을 평가하는 방법론으로 그 대상과 투입물, 산출물 선정이 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 2014~2018년 정규리그 1이닝 이상 소화한 투수를 대상으로 투입 변수는 연봉, 이닝 수를 산출 변수는 승, 세이브, 홀드를 선정하여 효율성 분석을 시행 하였고 포스트 시즌에 진출한 그룹, 진출하지 못한 그룹으로 나누어 각 그룹의 효율성 높은 투수들의 비율 차이 검정을 하였다. 본 연구는 첫째, 본 연구는 자료 포락 분석을 활용한 프로야구 산업 연구 분야를 확장시켰으며 둘째, 효율성 높은 선수의 경기력과 팀 순위의 연관성을 분석해 구단에 객관적인 선수 가치평가에 효율성 분석의 중요성을 제고하였으며 셋째, 선수 연봉 인상 혹은 삭감 상한선과 같은 실용적 연구에 유용한 자료를 제시했다는 점에서 중요한 의미가 있다.|Korea baseball league has seen an explosive increase in the number of spectators since it made its name known on the world stage at the World Baseball Classic (WBC) in 2006, and players' salaries have also begun to be set high. As a result, free trading (FA) players' ransom prices have risen further, and one of the issues is that the reckless increase of players' ransom has a negative impact on their performance beyond club and team internal solidarity. As of 2017, the minimum salary and maximum salary were 93 times different, while the records of FA multi-year contract players and their impact on the team were not much different from the average annual salary. However, most of the research related to this is about the efficiency of each player and the team's operational efficiency assessment. The impact of efficient players on team rankings in evaluating players' value is minimal. The purpose of this study is to measure player efficiency and correlate the team's advance into the postseason by using data envelopment analysis (DEA) for Korean professional baseball pitchers, thereby enhancing the importance of annual salary by introducing objective player valuation to the club. The data envelopment analysis used in this study is a methodology for evaluating efficiency between inputs and outputs, and the selection of targets, inputs, and outputs are important. In this study, the efficiency analysis was conducted on pitchers who played more than one inning in the regular league between 2014 and 2018, with annual salary, innings, wins, saves, and holds. After that, devided two groups depand on if the team advance into post season, the difference in the percentage of efficient players in each group was determined. As a result, the first, study expanded the field of research in the professional baseball industry using data envelopment analysis, secondly, the team presented an objective player valuation methodology to the club by analyzing the connection between efficient players' performance and team ranking.
