Program Annotation: 졸업연주 프로그램을 중심으로 한 J. Brahms, F. Poulenc, S. Barber의 성악작품 해설

Abstract

본 논문은 필자의 석사과정 이수를 위한 졸업연주 프로그램에 대한 연구로 요하네스 브람스(Johannes Brahms)의 《Vier Gesänge, Op.70》(4개의 노래), 프란시스 풀랑크(Francis Poulenc)의 《La courte paille》(작은 밀짚), 사무엘 바버(Samuel Barber)의 《Four Songs, Op.13》(4개의 노래)를 바탕으로 각 작곡가의 생애와 음악적 특징 및 각 작품의 가사 해석과 곡의 구조, 특징을 분석하고 연구하였다. 낭만시대의 대표적인 독일 작곡가 중 한 명인 브람스의 중기 작품 중《Vier Gesänge, Op.70》(4개의 노래)는 총 4곡으로, 제1곡 ‘Im garten am Seegestade’(해변의 정원에서) , 제2곡 ‘Lerchengesang’(종달새의 노래) , 제3곡 ‘Serenade’(세레나데) , 제4곡 ‘Abendregen’(저녁 비)로 이루어져 있다. 변형된 유절가곡의 형식이 주를 이루며 과거에 잃어버린 사랑에 대한 후회나 슬픔, 그리움을 소재로 하고 있다. 20세기 Les six(프랑스 6인조)의 일원이었던 풀랑크의 《La courte paille》(작은 밀짚)은 총 7곡이다. 제1곡 ‘Le Sommeil’(잠) , 제2곡 ‘Quelle aventure!’(굉장한 모험이에요!) , 제3곡 ‘La reine de cœur’(마음의 여왕) , 제4곡 ‘Ba, Be, Bi, Bo, Bu’(바, 브, 비, 보, 뷔) , 제5곡 ‘Les anges musiciens’(천사 음악가들) , 제6곡 ‘Le Carafon’(아기 유리병) , 제7곡 ‘Lune d’Avrill’(4월의 달)로 이루어져 있다. 어린이들을 위한 동요 형식으로 이루어져 있는 모음곡으로 단순한 리듬으로 구성되어 있으며 느린 템포와 빠른 템포의 곡들이 대조적으로 이어져 있다. 20세기 대표적인 미국의 신낭만주의 작곡가인 바버의 《Four Songs, Op.13》(4개의 노래)은 총 4곡으로 제1곡 ‘A nun Takes the Veil’(베일을 쓴 수녀) , 제2곡 ‘The Secrets of the Old’(늙은이의 비밀) , 제3곡 ‘Sure on This Shining Night’(분명 이 빛나는 밤에) , 제4곡 ‘Nocturne’(야상곡)으로 구성된다. 각 곡의 시에서는 연관성을 찾아볼 수 없지만 음악적인 부분을 통해 연관성을 부여한다. | This thesis is a study on the graduation performance program for the completion of author’s master program. This study is about each composer’s the life and musical characteristics, the interpretation of lyrics of each work, and the structure and characteristics of the song based on Johannes Brahms's 《Vier Gesänge, Op.70》(4 songs), Francis Poulenc's 《La courte paille》(Little Straw), and Samuel Barber's 《Four Songs, Op.13》.

Among the works of Brahms, one of the representative German composers of the Romantic era, 《Vier Gesänge, Op.70》(4 songs) consists of a total of 4 songs. These songs consists of the 1st song 'Im garten am Seegestade'(in the garden on the beach), the 2nd song 'Lerchengesang'(the lark's song), the 3rd song 'Serenade', and the 4th song 'Abendregen'(evening rain). These songs are mainly in the form of modified strophic, and are about regret, sorrow, or longing for lost love in the past.

Poulenc's 《La courte paille》(Little Straw), a member of Les six (French six) in the 20th century, consists of a total of 7 songs. These songs consist of the 1st song 'Le Sommeil'(sleep), the 2nd song 'Quelle aventure!'(Awesome adventure!), the 3rd song ‘La reine de cœur’(queen of hearts), the 4th song ‘Ba, Be, Bi, Bo, Bu’(ba, be,bi, bo, bu), 5th song ‘Les anges musiciens’(Angel musicians), the 6th song ‘Le Carafon’(baby glass bottle), and the 7th song ‘Lune d’Avrill’(Moon of April). These are suites in the form of nursery rhymes for children, with a simple rhythm and slow tempo and fast tempo songs are connected in contrast.

Barber's 《Four Songs, Op.13》, a representative American neo-romantic composer of the 20th century, consists of a total of 4 songs. The 1st song ‘A nun Takes the Veil’, 2nd song ‘The Secrets of the Old’, the 3rd song ‘Sure on This Shining Night’, the 4th song ‘Nocturne’. There is no connection in the poems of each song, but the connection is given through the musical part.
