Abstract
In this research, a new diagnostic system is developed that can easily identify bone fractures in non-medical environments. Due to human-to-human differences and the limitations on state-of-the-art medical devices, it is difficult to identify cracks, fractures, and healing processes in humans. Thus, various medical technologies such as X-rays, fork tuning systems, or computed tomography have been developed, and more advanced technologies are rising in the field of medical engineering. In dangerous situations, medical devices that detect bone fractures cannot be used or easily applied. Therefore, rapid detection of fractures is necessary without medical devices. For this, the transverse vibration responses of bones are analyzed in this study as bone fractures cause different mechanical vibration reactions. By comparing the transverse vibrational responses of healthy and fractured bones, the presence of bone fractures can be detected by calculating the modal assurance criterion. The transverse vibration response is different at low and high frequencies, and the modal assurance criteria are different depending on whether they are abnormal. Then, the differences in signals between non-fractured bones and fractured bones are calculated as a virtual spectrogram. This difference can be analyzed quantitatively and effectively through present criteria with transverse vibration data. Experiments using artificial specimens, composite bones, animal legs, and cadaver are performed to validate the proposed system. This thesis is published in ‘Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine’ as ‘Investigation of bone fracture diagnosis system using transverse vibration response’ Keywords: Transverse vibration response, fracture, frequency response function |국문초록 이 연구는 비 의료 환경에서 뼈 골절을 쉽게 식별할 수 있는 새로운 진단 시스템을 개발한다. 사람마다 신체적 특성이 다르고 최첨단 의료기기의 한계로 인해 사람 내부의 금이나 골절, 치유 과정 등을 파악하기 어렵다. 이에 엑스레이, 컴퓨터 단층촬영, 포크 튜닝 시스템 등의 다양한 의료기술이 개발돼 의료 공학 분야에서 더욱 발전된 기술이 등장하고 있다. 하지만 위험한 상황에서는 골절을 감지하는 의료기기가 없거나 쉽게 적용할 수 없다. 따라서 의료기기가 없는 골절의 신속한 발견이 필요하다. 이를 위해 본 연구에서는 뼈 골절이 서로 다른 기계적 진동 반응을 발생하기 때문에 횡 진동 반응을 분석한다. 이 후 MAC과 Spectrogram을 이용하여 골절 여부를 판단한다. 제안된 시스템을 검증하기 위해 인공 뼈, 동물 다리 및 시체를 이용하여 실험을 수행했다. 이 논문은 ‘Proceedings of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, Part H: Journal of Engineering in Medicine’에 ‘Investigation of bone fracture diagnosis system using transverse vibration response’ 게재되어 있음. 키워드: 횡 진동, 골절, 파손, 주파수 응답 함수, 인공 뼈, 시체
