양육태도가 불일치하는 부모를 둔 초기성인 자녀의 진로결정 경험에 대한 질적 연구

Abstract

본 연구의 목적은 양육태도가 불일치하는 부모를 둔 초기성인 자녀의 경험과 그 경험이 진로결정에 미치는 영향과 진로결정을 함에 있어서 어떠한 경험을 하는지 살펴보는 데 있었다. 이를 위해 본인이 지각한 부모 양육태도 검사 설문지를 배포하여 부와 모의 양육태도 점수차이가 크고 진로결정의 경험이 있는 20대 성인남녀 8명을 대상으로 일대일 심층면담을 통해 자료를 수집하였다. 면담은 양육태도가 불일치하는 부모에게서 성장하면서 어떠한 경험을 하였고, 부모의 양육태도를 어떻게 지각하였으며, 그러한 경험이 진로결정에는 어떠한 영향을 주었는지, 진로결정 과정에서 어떠한 경험을 하였는지 등을 중심으로 이루어졌다. 수집된 자료는 Hill, Thomson과 Williams(1997)가 제시한 합의적 질적 연구(CQR) 방법으로 분석하였다. 자료분석 결과, 연구문제에 따라 양육태도가 불일치하는 부모에게서 성장한 자녀의 경험, 불일치한 양육을 경험한 자녀의 진로결정 경험과 같이 2개의 영역에 걸쳐 4개의 범주, 11개의 하위범주, 47개의 핵심개념으로 분류되었다. 주요 연구결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. ‘양육태도가 불일치하는 부모에게서 성장한 자녀의 경험’의 영역에서는 불일치하는 부모에 대한 경험과 부모의 양육태도에 대한 지각과 같이 2개의 범주가 도출되었다. 참여자들은 양육태도가 불일치하는 부모에게서 성장하면서 부모의 모습을 닮고 싶거나 성격형성에 긍정적 도움이 되었다고 생각하고 자립심과 독립심을 갖게 되어 스스로 결정할 수 있게 되는 등의 인지적 경험, 부모의 갈등상황에서 다투는 모습으로 인해 두렵고 위기감을 느꼈으며 혼란스러웠고 자녀에 대한 태도로 상처를 받았으며 불안하고 무서웠음 등의 정서적 경험, 상대적으로 한쪽 부모와 더 밀착되었으며 어떠한 말이나 행동을 피하게 되거나 조심하게 되는 등의 행동적 경험을 하였다. 부모의 양육태도에 대해서는 통제적이고 간섭함, 방임적이거나 방목함, 헌신적이나 과함과 같이 양육태도를 부정적으로 지각하였고 지지적이며 수용적임과 같이 긍정적으로 지각하기도 하였다. ‘불일치한 양육을 경험한 자녀의 진로결정 경험’에서는 진로결정 과정의 경험과 진로결정 후의 경험과 같이 2개의 범주가 도출되었다. 참여자들은 부모의 의견을 듣긴 했으나 최종 결정은 본인이 하였음과 자신의 적성과 흥미와 능력을 진로결정의 영향요인으로 가장 많이 보고하였고, 부모의 반대나 강요가 있었던 것을 진로결정의 가장 큰 걸림돌이라고 보고하였는데, 이를 통해 부모가 진로결정에 영향을 주었음을 알 수 있었다. 눈에 띄는 것은 부모의 영향은 받았으나 진로결정은 스스로 했다는 참여자가 대부분이었고 한 명의 참여자만 부모의 의견에 따라서 진로를 결정하였다고 한 것이다. 진로결정 후의 경험에서는 부모가 지지를 보내거나 지원해줌과 부정적인 반응을 보이며 반대하는 등의 반응을 보였고, 그에 대해서 참여자들은 부정적인 반응에 서운함과 원망스러운 마음이 생겼고, 반대하지 않았지만 편치 않았으며, 반대하지 않아서 다행스러웠음을 보고하였다. 이례적으로 한 명의 참여자의 부모 모두가 자녀를 지지해 주어 본인에게 집중하게 되고 부모에 대한 신뢰감이 생겼음을 보고하였다. 본 연구는 양육태도가 불일치하는 부모를 둔 초기성인 자녀가 성장하면서 어떠한 경험을 했는지, 그 경험이 진로결정에는 어떠한 영향을 미쳤는지 탐색함으로써 기존 양적연구의 한계점을 보완하였다는데 의의가 있다. 본 연구의 시사점 및 제한점을 고려할 때 향후에는 전국을 대상으로 다양한 전공과 직업군을 가졌으며 남녀비율을 비슷하게 맞춘 참여자들을 모집하여 실시하는 연구가 이루어져야 할 것이다.| The purpose of this study was to investigate the experience of early adulthood children having parents with inconsistent parenting attitudes, their impact on career decisions, and their experiences in career decisions. For this reason, we distributed a parenting attitude test questionnaire, and collected datas through one-on-one in depth interviews with eight adult men and women in their twenties who experienced a large difference in the parenting attitude of their mother and father and have experience in deciding their career paths. Interviews were about with conflicting parental attitudes, what experiences they had while growing up, how they perceive their parental attitudes, and how such experiences have influenced their career decisions. The focus was on what kind of experience they had in the process. The data collected were analyzed by the consensual qualitative research(CQR) method presented by Hill, Thomson, Williams(1997). As a result of data analysis, there are 4 categories, 11 subcategories, and 47 core concepts across 2 areas, such as the experience of a child who grew up from a parent whose care attitude was inconsistent due to research problems, and the experience of deciding the course of a child who experienced inconsistent care. The main research results can be summarized as follows. In the area of ​​"experiences of children grown up from parents with contradictory parenting attitudes", two categories were derived, such as experience with disagreeable parents and perception of parental parenting attitudes. Participants who grew up from parents with inconsistent parenting attitudes, thought that they became more like their parents and helped positively in character formation, and became independent so that they could make their own decisions. Cognitive experiences such as becoming, emotional experiences such as feeling scared and dangerous, confused, hurt by attitude toward children, anxious and scared due to the appearance of fighting in the conflict situation of parents, relatively more than one parent they had a behavioral experience of being in close contact, avoiding any words or actions, and being careful. Parents' attitudes of parenting were disciplined, interfering, free-spirited or grazing, devoted or excessive, and positively perceived as supportive and receptive. In "Careering experience for children who have experienced disagreement of parental attitudes," two categories were derived, such as the experience of the career decision process and the experience after career decision. Participants listened to their parents' opinions, but the final decision was that they made the most reports of their aptitude, interests and abilities as influential factors in their career decisions, and that there was parental opposition or coercion, and that was the biggest obstacle. As a result, it was found that parents influenced their career decisions. What stands out is that most of the participants were influenced by their parents, but decided their own course, and only one participant decided their course based on their parents' opinions. In the post-career experience, parents responded with support, negative reactions and opposition, while participants were sad and embarrassed by the negative reactions and they reported that they feel hurted and resentful and inconvenient about their parents attitudes and others reported it was so lucky that their parents wasn’t opposed to their career decisions. As an unusual case, he reported that the parents of one participant supported the child and began to concentrate on him, creating a sense of trust with the parent. In this study, we explore the experiences of early adulthood children with parents who have conflicting parenting attitudes as they grow up, and how those experiences affect their career decisions. It is significant that it complemented the limits of the quantitative research. Considering the implications and limits of this study, it is necessary to conduct a research with the same gender ratio by recruiting participants who have various majors and occupations nationwide.
